Happy Thursday McMeen Families!

It's hard to believe it's already the end of April and there are less than six weeks left of school! There is a lot going on before summer break and plenty of opportunities to come together as a community and get involved. A few reminders:

1. Día del Niño is this Saturday, 4/27 from 12:00-2:00pm. We'll be in the gym if it rains.
2. McMeen Eats is on Tuesday, 4/30 at Wendy's. Help raise $ for PTO and make sure to bring the flyer.
3. Teacher Appreciation week is May 6-10 and we need your help. Details below.
4. There are lots of upcoming opportunities to volunteer. See the volunteer section below for more information.

APRIL 2024

🎉 Día del Niño
When: Saturday, April 27 @ 12:00-2:00 PM (More Info | Volunteer) Festivities will be in the gym due to forecasted rain.
Details: Celebrate Día del Niño at this fun community event. Traditional games, music, activities & more! Snacks will be available for sale: Churros ($1), Paletas ($2), Horchata ($2).

Details: Dine at your local Wendy's – show them this flyer – and they’ll donate 20% of the sales right back to the McMeen PTO!

When: Wednesday, May 1 @ 4:00-5:00 PM via Zoom

🌟 Family Bingo Night
When: Thursday, May 2 @ 5:00-6:00 PM
Details: Learn numbers in 3 languages—English, Spanish, and Arabic —at Family Bingo Night!  Free pizza and prizes provided.

🍎 Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week
When: May 6-10 (Printable Thank You Letters | Volunteer)
Details: Let a teacher or staff member know how they've helped your student grow! May 6-10 is Teacher Appreciation Week and we need your help celebrating all the dedicated staff at McMeen. Here's how:

1. PRINT: Print a thank you letter. There are versions available in both English and Spanish; in color or black and white that your student can color in. Don't have a printer? There will be extra copies at the McMeen front desk.
2. FILL-OUT: Have your student fill in the name of the staff member they want to thank in the banner at the top of the page, then fill in the boxes.
3. REPEAT: You can do this for as many teachers and staff members as you'd like!
4. RETURN: Return the letters to the front desk at McMeen by Friday, May 3. We will distribute them to staff during Teacher Appreciation Week.

📖 Scholastic Spring Book Fair
When: May 13-17 (Volunteer)

🇺🇳 Multicultural Night
When: Thursday, May 16 @ 4:00-7:00 PM (More Info)
Details: Multicultural Night is a special evening at McMeen. Each year we celebrate the rich cultures and unique traditions that each student and family brings to McMeen community. If you are interested in volunteering, please let your classroom teacher know.

McMeen and the PTO are working to streamline the volunteer sign-up process, but in the meantime there are many opportunities to get involved.

Don't have the bandwidth to volunteer but want to help? There are other ways! Make a donation to the PTO. Contributions help fund school projects, events, and scholarships. McMeen Elementary PTO is a 501(c)3 organization and contributions may be tax-deductible. Make a donation here.

The McMeen Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) exists for the purpose of supporting the education and well-being of children at McMeen by fostering relationships among the students, families, staff, and community. This mission is accomplished through volunteer support, fundraising efforts, community-building events, and teacher and programmatic support. Membership is free and open to all McMeen families and staff.
