McMeen Elementary

Flu Season is Here

10/18/23, 8:05 AM

Good Morning McMeen Families,

Just like every year during this time, influenza rates are ramping up. Influenza, or "the flu," is a respiratory viral illness that can spread very easily in community settings. While most people who contract the flu recover without serious health complications, children under the age of 5 years old (like our students in ECE pre-k) and children any age who experience other health conditions such as asthma and diabetes, are at greater risk for a more serious health complications from a flu infection.

Please review the attached flu information for parents from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Also attached, you will find a flyer for our Denver Health School School Based Centers, where ALL DPS student and their siblings can receive immunizations, including the flu shot, at no cost.

 Thank you and be well!

Nurse Miriam
