Good Evening McMeen Families!

September is known as a critically peak month for individuals with asthma.

Has a medical professional every told you your child has asthma? Did you know that asthma never "goes away" and people never "grow out" of asthma? Asthma is an incurable chronic health condition that can get better at times but is a lifelong diagnosis.

This being said, if you child has ever been diagnosed with asthma it's a good idea to have a rescue inhaler submitted to the school nurse in case your child has an asthma exacerbation or "attack." Even children with asthma that seems to be well controlled are at risk for an asthma event at school. Having an inhaler at school can prevent the school nurse from having to call home, sending a student home, or the need for emergency service activation via calling 911. If your student has ever had a diagnosis of asthma and has a prescription for a rescue inhaler, please consider submitting the inhaler to Nurse Miriam along with the following asthma action plan and medication order completed and signed by a guardian AND prescribing healthcare provider.

Asthma Action Plan - Spanish
