MESSAGE FOR K-5 FAMILIES: BESS Universal Social Emotional Screener '23-'24

08/28/23, 2:30 PM

Hello McMeen families!

My name is Lauren Durkin and I am the school social worker here at McMeen. Our school psychologist, Julie Magnuson, and I will be administering the BESS Screener this year to our students. For those of you who have not participated before, the BESS Screener is a universal social-emotional assessment that helps us to identify the students within our building who may be needing some extra social-emotional support this year.

ALL students will be screened using two forms of the BESS Screener.

Students in grades 3-5 will have the opportunity to complete a self-report assessment here at school beginning in mid-September, as well as a parent or teacher online reporting form.

Students in grades K-5 will be assessed by parents and teachers through online reporting forms.

After data is collected and analyzed, our mental health team will reach out to families to discuss any resources that may be available.

If you have questions or would like to opt your student out of this process, please respond to me directly by Friday, September 8, 2023.
