 Ways to Get Involved

Children's Pants Needed

We are in need of extra pants for children who have bathroom accidents. If you have anything you can donate, please drop them off at the main office.

Food Box

We are working on making a food box for families to donate and take food when needed. To get it started, we are looking for a 2-drawer file cabinet we can paint (preferably metal since it will be outside). Please let Natalie Jacobs know if you are able to donate one at natalie_jacobs@dpsk12.net

Recess Volunteers

We are always looking for recess volunteers. Our recess runs from 11:30-1:10 everyday. We are happy to help you find the time your child is at recess if that is something you are interested in. The general idea is to provide a time for families to come and volunteer at recess and provide extra supervision. The sincere hope is that this is a fun way to support the school. We have put together a Guide for Playground Volunteers in EnglishSpanish, Arabic, and Farsi that goes over some basics of how to get started. Please email Stacy West if you are interested at stacy1west@gmail.com.

Upcoming MTSS meetings:
Families, the week of January 9th, classroom teachers, and instructional support teams will be hosting MTSS meetings.  MTSS (Multi tier system of supports) is a continuous improvement framework put in place for students needing additional instruction and support within the general classroom. If your child has been in MTSS rounds you will be contacted to meet with your child's teacher to attend a meeting to discuss further support to best meet your learners needs.  Please be prepared to meet in person or virtually for about 30 minutes during the school day.

REMINDER Early and Late Pick-up

If you need to pick you student up early from school, we ask that you do so by 2:45pm.  After 2:45, we will ask you to wait for them to be released on the blacktop at 3:20.  Please plan accordingly.

Also, we have had a huge increase in students being picked up late. Starting November 15, we will charge $1 for every minute a parent is late picking up their child. As a reminder, we get out of school at 3:20.

REMINDER Vision and Hearing Screening

Our annual Vision and Hearing Screenings have been scheduled for January 24th-27th. Please reach out to Nurse Miriam if you have any questions at miriam_cavender@dpsk12.net.

Come and celebrate 2nd grade learning on Thursday, 12.15.22 from 8:45-9:30 AM in our classrooms!

1st Grade - First grade has been busy! Different classes have spent time making volcano experiments, learning about the countries participating in the world cup, and making creative models of teen numbers to support our place value knowledge. Next week we will learn about holidays around the world to wrap up the semester. In January we look forward to reading different versions of fables and folktales from around the world and exploring shapes and patterns in geometry.

3rd Grade Teacher Ms. Toney came to Ms. Jacob's 1st Grade Class to tell about her experience living near volcanos in Hawaii.
