 Ways to Get Involved

Bike Tire Tubes

We are looking for donations of bike tire tubes. These provide a great chair fidget for kids who need them. If you have any tubes you can donate, please let Lauren Bartsch know at lauren_bartsch@dpsk12.net and/or drop them off at the office.

Recess Volunteers

We are always looking for recess volunteers. Our recess runs from 11:30-1:10 everyday. We are happy to help you find the time your child is at recess if that is something you are interested in. The general idea is to provide a time for families to come and volunteer at recess and provide extra supervision. The sincere hope is that this is a fun way to support the school. We have put together a Guide for Playground Volunteers in EnglishSpanish, Arabic, and Farsi that goes over some basics of how to get started. Please email Stacy West if you are interested at stacy1west@gmail.com.

Announcements

Late Pick-up

We have had a huge increase in students being picked up late and them being picked up much later than usual. Starting November 15, we will charge $1 for every minute a parent is late picking up their child. As a reminder, we get out of school at 3:20.

Family "Dinner"

We have decided to re-name our Thanksgiving Dinner to our Family Dinner in recognition of the fact that not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving. This will occur on November 10th. All families are invited to join us for this meal during your child's lunch time. The meal will cost $5 for adults and $3 for non McMeen children. You can pay via cash or check. The menu will be as follows:

Classroom Updates

1st Grade - First grade just finished up learning about the Earth, Sun, and Space. We’re excited to start learning about the Earth from the inside out in our new literacy unit about the history of the Earth. We are also working on our independent writing skills. In math we are building our place value knowledge and addition skills. It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway to the 100th day of school! We will also embrace the theme of gratitude this month as we celebrate everything we have built together in each of our classroom communities.

2nd Grade - 2nd Grade spent a week learning about the history, culture, and traditions of Día de los muertos! We talked about the annual butterfly migration to central Mexico and the skulls/skeletons that are found on altars that represent the celebration of life.
