 Ways to Get Involved

Bike Tire Tubes

We are looking for donations of bike tire tubes. These provide a great chair fidget for kids who need them. If you have any tubes you can donate, please let Lauren Bartsch know at lauren_bartsch@dpsk12.net and/or drop them off at the office.

Recess Volunteers

We are always looking for recess volunteers. Our recess runs from 11:30-1:10 everyday. We are happy to help you find the time your child is at recess if that is something you are interested in. The general idea is to provide a time for families to come and volunteer at recess and provide extra supervision. The sincere hope is that this is a fun way to support the school. We have put together a Guide for Playground Volunteers in EnglishSpanish, Arabic, and Farsi that goes over some basics of how to get started. Please email Stacy West if you are interested at stacy1west@gmail.com.

Announcements

Halloween

As a reminder, we are NOT participating in any Halloween festivities at McMeen this year and are instead leaving celebrating Halloween up to parents outside of the school day.

Conduct at School

We wanted to send a quick reminder to please ensure you are showing the highest and most respectful conduct while on school grounds. If you have an issue, please reach out to your child's teacher or Principal Hinman and Assistant Principal Bartsch for support. We want to make sure that as adults we are modeling the positive behavior we hope to see in our students. The School Board has policies related to adult conduct on school grounds that we encourage everyone to review here (translations are at the bottom of the page).

Computers

These are just a quick list of care items for students and parents to consider when their device comes home

  • Provide a safe location to charge the device (if you have a charger) and to keep the device off the floor, away from pets & young siblings. It is best if this location is near where they get ready to leave for school in the AM. ie next to their; backpack, lunch, shoes, jacket, as this can help create the habit of remembering to bring it as required educational materials.
  • No food or drink during computer use, it is a regular occurrence that spills result in damage requiring repair which will then create a fee to the family for that repair.
  • DPS Filters for word searches and email are still there to keep your child safe, but web browsing blocks are not. Monitor your child's activity and limit their use in the evening as appropriate.
  • You can contact your Internet Service Provider for directions about how to block sites on your home router if needed.
  • If possible get your child a backpack with a padded laptop slot inside so that it is less likely to be damaged going to and from school. Lots of Options on Amazon
  • You can use a disinfecting wipe or damp cloth to clean the device, please do not rinse or leave it wet. It is best to wipe the device dry with a cloth after cleaning to prevent any glare on the screen and sticky/tackiness on the surfaces your child will touch.
