Sponsorship Program

This year, the PTO is offering a sponsorship program to raise funds for new Promethean boards for the classrooms. We are looking for local businesses to support the mission through a monetary donation. Those businesses will receive recognition for their support in various outlets including a banner on Holly St.

McMeen families with businesses that are interested in the program can participate at a reduced requested donation rate.

If you or someone you know is interested in being a sponsor please email Andrea Lazar at andrea.lavine@gmail.com.

Recess Volunteers

We would love to start up our recess volunteer program again. The general idea is to provide a time for families to come and volunteer at recess and provide extra supervision. The sincere hope is that this is a fun way to support the school. We have put together a Guide for Playground Volunteers in EnglishSpanish, Arabic, and Farsi that goes over some basics of how to get started. Please email Stacy West if you are interested at stacy1west@gmail.com.

Classroom Updates

ECE - In ECE we continue to work on our rituals and routines and the students are doing a great job on these. For Literacy, we have started learning some of the letters and the sounds they make. We try to start with some of the more common letters that they see in the environment and work from there. In Math, we are learning to identify and describe shapes. They are having a lot of fun searching for and pointing out shapes in the environment.

Kindergarten - In kindergarten, students have been practicing prewriting and phonemic awareness skills to gear up for learning letters, sounds, and how to decode words. Kindergarten students have also been working hard on learning how to write numbers, count to 20, and manipulate groups of objects.

1st Grade - First grade is so excited to start our new literacy unit on the human body! We will read nonfiction texts about these human body systems: the muscular, skeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and digestive systems to talk and write about how our bodies work and how we can keep our bodies healthy. In math we will continue working on addition strategies and exploring fact families.
