McMeen Elementary

Early Release TOMORROW and Thursday

09/06/22, 12:45 PM

September 6, 2022

Dear McMeen community,

It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents related to student safety. Due to the anticipated high temperatures on Wednesday September 7th and Thursday September 8th, we have decided to send students home at 11:20 a.m. on those day(s). This is being done for the safety of our students and staff.  Back to School night has been rescheduled for Wednesday September 14th.

When temperatures rise to these levels, heat exhaustion is always a possibility, whether kids are outside or in a building that isn’t air conditioned. Here are some signs of heat exhaustion.

  • Cool, moist skin with goosebumps when in the heat

  • Heavy sweating

  • Faintness

  • Dizziness

  • Fatigue

  • Weak, rapid pulse

  • Low blood pressure upon standing

  • Muscle cramps

  • Nausea

  • Headache

While these signs do not automatically indicate a trip to a doctor, the person should rest in a shady area or in an air conditioned building, drink cool fluids such as water or sports drinks, and take a cool shower, if possible, or put towels soaked in cool water on their skin.

We would like to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students are our number one priority. The forecast is for temperatures to drop back to manageable temperatures by Friday and we expect to return to our normal schedule at that time. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Andria Hinman

Principal
