Announcements

Arrival and Dismissal

As a reminder, school starts at 8:20. Due to this, we will close down Kiss & Go at this time. If you arrive late, please head to the front to get a tardy pass. Also, to clarify, you cannot park where the cones are in the morning. We use this for bus drop-off. In the afternoon, we use the parking lot for buses, so you are more than welcome to park at the cones then. School is done at 3:20. If you arrive at 3:30 or later, please come to the front office.

Meeting With Your Child's Teacher

If you need to speak with your child's teacher, please make sure to schedule a time with them or wait after all children have been up. This is to ensure that teachers can focus on ensuring student safety during arrival and dismissal.

Gifted/Talented Magnet Testing

If you would like you to nominate your student for magnet testing please follow this link and nominate your child to take the COGAT.  The nomination window will close 10/14.  The cognitive assessment will be given at McMeen by me (Jenni Cessar).  If you have any questions, please reach out: jennifer_cessar@dpsk12.net

3rd Aveen - I would like to shout out Aveen for coming to class this week with a smile on her face each day and for being such a sweetheart! - Ms. Caldwell

2nd Maggie - it is her first year at McMeen and she already embodies several of our school values! She is very respectful to every adult and super responsible when it is time to focus in the classroom! - Ms. Candee

3rd Izzie - he is always offering to help other students and bring happiness to the class. - Ms. Rabin

Kindergarten Aviana - Aviana is such a wonderful role model and friend. She takes care in her work and is always ready to learn! We're so happy to have Aviana in our classroom! - Ms. Blair

Classroom Updates

Sra. Zaragoza's Kindergarten - En la clase de Ms. Zaragoza nos hemos divertido conocernos unos a otros, nuestro salón de clases y escuela. In Ms. Zaragoza's class we have been having a fun time getting to know one another, our classroom and school.

3rd Grade - Third grade has had a wonderful week getting to know each other, creating our class expectations, and practicing our class ritual and routines. We are starting our Literacy Unit and will be learning about classic tales from around the world. In math, we will be starting to learn about multiplication.

1st Grade - First grade is working on building a classroom community by getting to know each other, discussing what we would like our classroom to feel like, and practicing routines. We are excited to set classroom goals together! We are also practicing our communication skills so we can share our thinking and learning with our friends. Ask us about a story we read about big feelings on the first days of school!

Ms. Blair's Kindergarten - Room 111 is having such a fun start to the school year! We are learning rituals and routines, and practicing our cutting, gluing, and drawing skills. Most importantly, we are making friends!

2nd Grade - 2nd Grade is working on using Cool Tools to problem solve in a safe way. So far we have learned the Stop Sign to ask others to stop when they are in their space, being bothered, or need some space. They also worked on Walking Feet to know it is okay to walk away from a problem. Next week we will continue to learn more Cool Tools!

Next Meeting - Monday, August 29th at 6pm via Zoom

Come to the first PTO meeting and be entered in a drawing for a gift card to a local business!

Colorado Rockies Game - September 11th @1:10pm.
Colorado Rockies vs Arizona Diamondbacks

Ticket purchases can be made through cash or the square site https://mcmeenpto.square.site/

Tickets paid by cash need to have the fully filled out form that was sent home with your child. Please include student and parent name, student's teacher name and contact info on the form. Donated tickets, for families who would like to go, helped last year's game become a great McMeen community event. Ticket donations can be made in either format as well. Last year we had many more requests than available donated tickets. The square site has a ticket donation button so you can use a card to donate.  If a donation is being made using the form, please make note on the form that the tickets are for donation. Ticket purchases are due by Tuesday, September 6th. Tickets will be distributed by Ben Warren from the PTO, on the playground at McMeen, within two or three school days leading up to the Game. If tickets aren't picked up, they will be given to the school office to be distributed to families in their Friday folder. He will try to accommodate requests for families to sit together but it may not be possible.

There are 2 PTO board positions open. If you are interested in the Secretary or Treasurer position, please contact us for more details.
