Lunch Prices for 2022-2023

Due to the expiration of Federal Waivers that Nutrition Services has been operating under since the beginning of the pandemic, school lunches will no longer be free for all students in the 2022-23 school year. All students will need to be recorded by student ID numbers when they take their breakfast and lunch. Breakfast will remain no charge for all students. 

 

Elementary school lunch prices for 2022-23 will be $2.60

McMeen Eats

Our next McMeen Eats is June 6th at Ester’s (1950 S Holly St, Denver, CO 80222) from 4-9pm. It is for dine in only. Just mention McMeen to your server and they will contribute to our fundraiser!

Art Summer Camp

The Children’s Art School invites young artists to a summer of creative discoveries in six weeklong classes from June 13 to July 25, from 9:00am to 12:00 noon, at 2290 South Clayton Street in the University Park neighborhood. Art smart classes master skills and challenge creative thinking including constructing a Fantasy Clay Castle and Print Press Surprises.  For summer schedule and registration information, visit www.artcreates.org

 

REMINDER Medications with the Nurse

It is that time of year again! All Medications must go! If your student has medications at school, please make arrangements with the school nurse to pick up all medications/medical equipment that was brought to the health office to support your child’s health during the school year. All medications must be picked up by an adult and are not permitted to be sent home with your child. 

 

If your child is participating in a summer program: Medication will NOT automatically be transferred to the summer school program.  All medication must be picked up by parent/guardian and given to the site on the first day of the summer program.  

 

*IF ARRANGEMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN MADE FOR MEDICATION PICK-UP, ALL REMAINING MEDICATIONS WILL BE DISPOSED OF ON June 3rd 2022

 

The 2022-23 School year Denver Public Schools (DPS) Student Medication Agreement form is located here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oHFbeUBFCO3YapLa_uaJO-FTDhdzULPhO_9umlpRJGs/edit.  

 

This form must be completed and signed by a medical provider and signed by  parent/guardian. Just a reminder that all prescription medications must be in the original pharmacy labeled container and the label must match the medical provider form. All over-the-counter medications must be in the original package, unopened and labeled with the student’s name, and also match the medical provider form.

REMINDER Chromebooks

All students will be allowed to take their chromebooks home with them over the summer. As a reminder, the purpose of this is for them to continue engaging in learning. Also, please ensure students are caring for their chromebooks as they do belong to McMeen and we will continue using them next year. If your child is not returning to a DPS school next year, they will need to turn their chromebook in at the end of the year.

2nd Grade, Allison Thompson - She has been focused and on task with every assignment. She has been helping keep herself and others around her safe. She is one of the best at using her problem solving skills in and out of the classroom. - Mrs. Homberg

 

2nd Grade, Quin Cantrell - We are really going to miss Quin here at McMeen next year. He has grown so much this year and has come to love school and his teachers. He tries his hardest, and enjoys to read, even though he won't admit it. It has been such a joy to watch him grow and become ready for 3rd grade next year! - Mrs. Homberg and Ms. Van Loan

 

2nd Grade, Eli Siegle - He has the most delightful personality. He is a true child at heart and I hope he doesn't grow up too fast! His imagination, spider-man skills, and trying to do the splits has kept us all smiling with joy! He is one of the nicest kids with the biggest heart. He truly cares for his friends, teachers, and parents. - Mrs. Homberg and Ms. Van Loan

 

2nd Grade, Cecil Keys - He is so joyful! He tries his hardest at every task he is given. He always is making connections with our curriculum to his home life. He is also always willing to help others, and take on extra tasks. He is reflective and will apply feedback, to improve his work. - Ms. Van Loan

 

My entire 2nd Grade class of Super Heroes - They showed incredible sportsmanship and respect to one another during field day! I am so proud of the way they worked together and made the day incredible! - Ms. Johns

 

2nd Grade, Michelle Johnson - She overcame her fear of the long jump and gave it her all! I am so proud of the way she conquered her fear and nerves and did it! YOU GO GIRL! - Ms. Johns

 

2nd Grade, Richbo Gwah - I was SO proud of his sportsmanship and teamwork during tug of war! He was so proud to have taken a leadership role and cheering on his team and his class mid game, and I couldn't be more proud to have witnessed it! - Ms. Johns

 

2nd Grade, Lorenzo Grove - He showed the kindest heart and the greatest attitude on Field Day! Our group has an odd number of students, and he was the first student to include a child who didn't have a team for the relay race! It was amazing to see him jump in, invite this child to be on their team, and put his arm around his shoulder. He helped a child who desperately needed to feel that connection, and I am so proud of him! - Ms. Johns

 

ECE, Kai King - Kai es una linda niña que viene a la escuela lista para jugar e interactuar de manera positiva con sus amigos de la clase. Nosotros nos sentimos muy felices y orgullosas del progreso social y académico que Kai ha hecho a travez del ciclo escolar en nuestro programa de lenguaje dual de preescolar. ¡Sigue esforzándote Kai! 

Kai is a very sweet girl that  comes to school ready to play and interact positively with her friends in the class. We are very happy and proud of the social and academic progress Kai has made through the school year in our ECE dual language program.

News from Classrooms

2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade - Artists Participate in the World Needs Challenge with Students Rebuild- Students in the art studio were asked to create art in response to the question, "What does the world need?"  Art activists (in 2nd-5th grade)  have joined the World Needs Challenge and have raised over 1500 to donate to organizations supporting world hunger, racial equality, homelessness, endangered animals, and taking care of our planet.  Way to go artists! - Emilee Claypool

 

3rd Grade - Let’s Celebrate!

Who: All 3rd Grade Classes!

What: End of Year Classroom Picnic

Where: Lollipop Lake (Garland Park)

When: Wednesday, June 1st 12:00pm-2:30pm 

Why: Let’s celebrate a successful 3rd grade year with all our teachers, friends, and families! 

-Everyone is welcome to come celebrate! If you would like to bring a special treat for your class, please make sure to bring enough for your homeroom (22 students). All treats must be store bought, peanut free, and gelatin free. We can’t wait to see you there!

-Students can bring items such as cards, jump ropes, coloring books, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, or soccer balls to play during the picnic.
