Announcements

Medications with the Nurse

It is that time of year again! All Medications must go! If your student has medications at school, please make arrangements with the school nurse to pick up all medications/medical equipment that was brought to the health office to support your child’s health during the school year. All medications must be picked up by an adult and are not permitted to be sent home with your child.

If your child is participating in a summer program: Medication will NOT automatically be transferred to the summer school program.  All medication must be picked up by parent/guardian and given to the site on the first day of the summer program.

*IF ARRANGEMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN MADE FOR MEDICATION PICK-UP, ALL REMAINING MEDICATIONS WILL BE DISPOSED OF ON June 3rd 2022

The 2022-23 School year Denver Public Schools (DPS) Student Medication Agreement form is located here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oHFbeUBFCO3YapLa_uaJO-FTDhdzULPhO_9umlpRJGs/edit.

This form must be completed and signed by a medical provider and signed by  parent/guardian. Just a reminder that all prescription medications must be in the original pharmacy labeled container and the label must match the medical provider form. All over-the-counter medications must be in the original package, unopened and labeled with the student’s name, and also match the medical provider form.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

If you have any questions, please contact your school RN at the following number:  Miriam Cavender RN, BSN, NCSN 720-424-5525

Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you next year!

Chromebooks

All students will be allowed to take their chromebooks home with them over the summer. As a reminder, the purpose of this is for them to continue engaging in learning. Also, please ensure students are caring for their chromebooks as they do belong to McMeen and we will continue using them next year. If your child is not returning to a DPS school next year, they will need to turn their chromebook in at the end of the year.

Internet

For families who may not have adequate access to internet services, there are resources available to support. With the passing of the government’s Infrastructure Bill, qualifying families may be eligible to receive up to a $30 credit for internet access, which in some cases covers the cost of internet service altogether. You can also request a hotspot from the District. Please reach out to Lauren Bartsch at lauren_bartsch@dpsk12.net if you would like to request one.

Arrival

As a reminder, school starts right at 8:20am. We have noticed more and more students arriving late. When your child is late, they miss breakfast and important social emotional time with their class. Please make sure they arrive between 8:05 and 8:20 every morning.

Food & Nutrition Services is hiring

Are you a parent looking for a job that works with your student’s schedule? The DPS Food & Nutrition Services is looking for Food Service Workers. Apply at career.dpsk12.org. Interviews are every Thursday 8am-10am at 2320 W 4th Ave, Denver, CO 80223. See this flier for more info.

A note from the McMeen Library

Dear McMeen families,

Scholastic Book Fair News:

As we wrap up another school year, I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the students and families who supported our recent “Books Bring Us Together” Scholastic Book Fair.  The book fair was a huge success and was the highest grossing book fair in the history of the school!  In fact, we almost doubled the previous record for number of sales. Profits from the book fair amount to approximately $3,000 to be used to purchase new books for our school library.

I am very grateful to our amazing PTO for generously purchasing a book for every student in the school. Also, many thanks to all book fair volunteers who helped with writing student wish lists, making and hanging signs and running cash registers, and to Jackie Brown, for her efforts in helping to organize the PTO books for students.  I would also like to thank all of the families who purchased books for teachers and the library!

Winners of the Multicultural Night book basket drawing are:

  1. Aria Foster in Ms. Homberg’s class
  2. Spencer Goodwin in Ms. Holm’s class

(Students may pick up their book baskets in the library.)

End of Year Library Book Round-Up:

All library books are due by Monday, May 23, 2022.  Emails have been sent out to students’ families with the titles of library books that were not returned as of Wednesday, May 18th.  Please remember the outstanding books are a snapshot in time and may not reflect books that were returned after the list was generated.  Teachers will be receiving lists of outstanding library books for their class this week and the list will be updated weekly.  The library does not charge for lost or damaged books.  However, a voluntary donation of $10 per lost or damaged book would be greatly appreciated.

Please direct any questions to Mrs. Ramsey (see email below).  Have a wonderful summer break and keep reading!
