Safety Incident - Paul Sandoval Campus

08/20/23, 1:41 PM

Dear DSST: Conservatory Green HS Families

It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents that may affect our students’ safety. On Friday, August 18, an incident took place on our campus during an evening football scrimmage between Northfield and George Washington High School.

During the third quarter of the scrimmage, a commotion occurred in the spectator area that caused a group of people to panic and flee. Denver Public Schools Department of Safety were already present, and the Denver Police Department responded quickly to support.

DPD is still investigating the incident, including rumors of a firearm at the incident. At present, there is no evidence of any firearm being present during the incident.

We know some of our students were present at the scrimmage, and their safety and wellbeing is our top priority. We will have mental health resources available all this week at school for students in need of support. If your child was present, and you would like them to have a check-in with a member of our mental health team, please fill out this referral form. Below are some additional resources to talk to your student and support them:

  • I Matter is a free Colorado program to provide mental health support for students.

  • Additional resources to talk to your students about school safety (from the Colorado Department of Education)

  • Contact the Mental Health Center of Denver at (303) 504-1500 to find a community-based therapist if your student needs additional ongoing support.

If you or your student have any information about the incident that occurred, please reach out to me directly or share through Safe to Tell at (877) 542-7233. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you,

Nate Reaven
