Update for Families: Incident at DSST: CGHS

Dear DSST: Conservatory Green Families,

This afternoon at about 3:25 p.m. as students were being dismissed from campus, two CGHS students were struck by a vehicle at Central Park Boulevard and 56th Street. Thanks to the quick response of students and staff, the students involved were transported to the hospital immediately.

A number of students were in the vicinity of the incident and witnessed what happened. Several students gave statements to the Denver Police Department today, and it is possible that more will be asked to give statements tomorrow or in the future. 

Witnessing or hearing of an event like this can be traumatic for students. We encourage you to speak with your student about what happened and how they are feeling; know that students may want to talk immediately or in the future as well. Below are some additional resources to talk to your student and support them:

• I Matter is a free Colorado program to provide mental health support for students.

• Contact the Mental Health Center of Denver at 303-504-1500 to find a community-based therapist if your student needs additional ongoing support.

• Information about the role of caring adults can be found here.

• If you are concerned about your student, please reach out to their advisor so they can be connected with our admin or mental health team.

I am deeply grateful to the CGHS and Northfield staff who provided immediate support, as well as to the first responders who provided quick care to our students.  We will share more updates as we have them. Please reach out to me with any questions.
