Driving Down Chronic Absenteeism
Is Chronic Absenteeism our Greatest Threat?
Chronic absenteeism is increasing at an unprecedented rate and unfairly impacts:
- Students of color
- FRPL (low-income)
- Those with IEPs (disabilities)
Flyer Connect examined strategies from Attendance Works that are designed to reduce absences. We then applied our social assistance and equity lens to eliminate many hurdles families face that contribute to absences.
Email support@flyerconnect.org to request our attendance form. Benefits allow families to directly report absences:
- From their phone, and in their own language
- Without having to remember a complicated username or password
- Without the use of an attendance voicemail that has to be checked multiple times a day
Furthermore, the tool triages the cause of the absence and notifies available resources to support those families in alleviating those issues.
For example, imagine if the root cause of chronic absences for a student was due to lack of morning transportation. Virtually every district in America has access to resources or a solution to support this but without identifying the issue it's near impossible to support the family.
