Denison Montessori

Incident on campus today

11/15/23, 2:53 PM

Good afternoon, Denison Montessori community.  The safety of our students and staff is the number one priority at Denison Montessori.  I am reaching out about an incident that took place around 12:35 this afternoon as we were preparing for early dismissal.

The remnants of a pumpkin were thrown through the window of a Primary classroom.  Fortunately, no students or staff were physically injured as a result of this incident.  Staff members in the impacted classroom responded beautifully in following all safety protocols in reporting the incident, removing students from the classroom, keeping them safe, and calmly reassuring them as they prepared for dismissal.   We have numerous statements from witnesses about the individual who threw the pumpkin.

Please know that I take the safety of students and staff very seriously.  I am working with DPS's Department of Safety and Security and the Denver Police Department as a result of this incident.  If you would like additional resources to talk to your child about their safety, please reach out to Ms. Kirsten at kirsten_loar@dpsk12.net.  You can also reach out to me by email (nfickes@dpsk12.net) or phone (720-424-8080) if you have additional questions or concerns.

Kind regards,

Ms. Natalie
