Good evening, Denison Montessori community. Thank you for your patience and understanding last week as we navigated a spike in COVID cases at our school. We always have masks available in school if you or your child needs one for any reason, just stop by the main office to pick one up. We are looking forward to a busy week before Fall Break starts. Attention to Attendance: It’s important to send students to school daily. We also ask families to recognize when students are too sick to come to school and keep students home when sick. This ensures that we are able to provide all students with a healthy learning environment. Thanks for your help in keeping our school open and healthy!

We do want to celebrate the 118 students who met Denison Montessori’s 95% attendance and two or fewer days tardy goal for the month of October. Congratulations to these students! Students received a certificate acknowledging their attendance that is redeemable for a free kids meal at IHOP. We also sent home 56 letters celebrating our students and families whose attendance improved from September to October. Thank you for helping us prioritize attendance while following guidelines for keeping sick students home.

Announcements

This Tuesday, November 14th, Denison’s Fall Feast returns! A limited number of tickets are remaining for family members to join their students to celebrate, payable by cash or check, in Denison’s main office. Adult tickets cost $7 and child tickets (for students who don’t attend Denison) will cost $5. You must have your ticket to attend the meal on 11/14. Meal times are listed below. If you have children in more than one grade level, please eat with the first group served and inform the teacher via email when you will be celebrating with your children.
Denison’s CSC meets this Tuesday, November 14th, at 4:15 in Denison’s Library. We will be discussing ways to increase parent involvement and engagement at our school. This meeting is open to all community members and we would love to see you there!
The DPS “Your Voice/Tu Voz” Family Survey is open now through Wednesday, Nov. 15. Your Voice focuses on measuring outcomes across the district and its learnings from these surveys directly impact students and families. Families can access the survey link here. Families who complete their survey between now and Nov. 15 will be eligible for a gift card giveaway! Make an impact this November by taking the DPS Your Voice/Tu Voz family survey. As a reminder, unlike previous years, DPS will administer the survey to families once in the fall and will administer it to students once in the spring.
Picture retakes have been scheduled for Thursday, November 16th, from 9:00 - 11:00 am. Please see the attached fliers for ordering information. Your child's classroom teacher can tell you the specific time for their class.
Denison has started to plan for state testing. All students in grades 3-6 will take the CMAS Math and Literacy test in Spring of 2024. 5th grade students also take CMAS Science. Please see our anticipated schedule below. It is important that as many of our students take the CMAS test as possible. If you are planning to opt your student out of CMAS, Parent Portal Opt Outs are available now through February 29. Please schedule appointments outside the testing dates below. If you have appointments already that cannot be rescheduled, please email Ms. Tara (tara_crewe@dpsk12.net) as soon as possible so she can begin making plans to test your child(ren). Thank you for your help in testing as many of our students as possible.

As we move closer to winter, families can start preparing for delayed start days or school cancelation due to severe winter weather. Please review DPS’s weather cancellation or delayed start policy for the 2023-2024 school year. Denison Montessori will communicate with families about severe weather cancellations or delays via the ReachWell app and our Facebook page.
Join the Multilingual Education (MLE) District Advisory Committee (DAC) on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 5-7 p.m., at Place Bridge Academy (7125 Cherry Creek N. Dr., Denver, CO 80224). This month, participants will learn about the Seal of Biliteracy and how students can begin the process for earning this award as early as elementary school. Dinner, childcare and interpretation services will be available. Please see these fliers for more information and register here.
