Good evening, Denison Montessori community! As fall weather returns to Denver, please be sure you send your child to school prepared for outdoor recess. We go outdoors for recess daily unless the temperature drops into the low 30s/upper 20s or it is actively raining or snowing. If you would like to investigate options for assistance with cold weather gear for your child, please contact our main office at 720-424-8080. Montessori Moment: Dr. Maria Montessori created the Montessori method over 100 years ago in Italy. Dr. Montessori was dedicated to the ideals that work and independence allow children to become kind and conscientious adults who love learning, help others, and promote peace. In service of these values, Montessori classrooms offer lessons on grace and courtesy, which help our students understand and demonstrate our ROSE values (Respect Others Self and Environment).

Bullying Prevention Tip: October was first declared as National Bullying Prevention Month in 2006. We are using this month to promote some of our bullying prevention practices at Denison Montessori. We are in the process of creating a student committee that will focus on bullying prevention and including all at our school. This will be for Upper Elementary students as a leadership opportunity. Upper Elementary students will be receiving more details very soon about how to get involved. Parent input requested! Please take a few minutes to complete the BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Screening System) for your child/children at Denison Montessori. Fall individual pictures are scheduled with Lifetouch Pictures on Tuesday, October 10th and Wednesday, October 11th. Orders can be placed online at MyLifetouch.com. Please use Event Code EVTS2SFMV. The event codes will be active until October 13th. Should you miss this deadline your next opportunity to order will be when your child receives their proofs, which is usually 2 to 3 weeks after picture day. The proofs will have a unique access code and portrait ID # that can be used to place your order. Should you have any questions regarding orders please contact the Lifetouch Parent Line at 1-800-736-4753. Please check with your child's teacher for the day and time of their pictures.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage month, Denison Montessori is hosting storyteller Angel Vigil on Tuesday, October 10th. He will share the story of El Vaquero, America’s First Cowboy, which is a storytelling show featuring the stories and legends of the Spanish/Mexican Vaquero, America’s First Cowboy. A special feature of the show is the historically accurate costume Angel wears representing the Spanish Colonial Vaquero of the 1700s. This show is part of the Colorado Humanities Council Chautauqua Series.
Safety Reminders! When bringing your child to school, pull to the curb to have your child exit the car. We are not able to ensure their safety if they are being let out in the middle of the street, so your child’s safety is at risk. Also, please do not park in the crosswalks. Many families rely on the crosswalks to get their young children and children in strollers to and from Denison. When you park in the crosswalk, you endanger the safety of our community members. Please respect the crosswalks and find other spots to park. Thank you for your help in keeping our children and community members safe.
Denison Montessori’s Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is meeting this Tuesday, October 10th, in Denison’s library at 4:15 pm. This month we will discuss Denison’s status as a Title One school, Safety Updates, class sizes, and our progress toward our major improvement goals and strategies. This meeting is open to the public and we hope to see you there!
