Good evening, Denison Montessori.  Are you ready for more cold weather this week?  With the expected extreme cold, the building may be colder than usual due to our drafty windows.  Please be sure your students have layers so they can be comfortable in our classrooms.  We hope to see you on Wednesday at the Talent show and Thursday at our parent education night this week.  Please see below for more details. Announcements

  • This Thursday, February 2nd, Denison Montessori is offering a community education night.  This session, presented by a local organization called Educational Access Group, will share information focusing on how the brain develops, functions and is impacted by stress and trauma. The presenters will discuss how stress can be both positive and negative in our children’s development and how adults can better understand and support children in regulating, building skills and forming relationships. Childcare will be provided free of charge and Spanish and Vietnamese interpretation will be available.

  • Lower Elementary families are invited to attend Watch Me Work Night on Wednesday, February 8th, from 5:00 - 6:00 pm.  Students will be able to show their family members they work they have been completing in their classrooms.  While that event is taking place, our community partner Montessori on Wheels will be bringing their Montessori classroom bus, Rungano, to Denison for a visit from 4:15 - 6:15.  Rungano will be parked on the blacktop on the west side of the school.  To learn more about Montessori on Wheels, please visit https://montessorionwheels.org/ 

  • We have noticed an increase in students being picked up late after school. Parents and those picking up students from school are asked to be sensitive to the extra burden placed on the school when students need to be supervised after the pick-up time. School dismissal is 3:45-4:00 for ECE4 and Kindergarten, 4:05-4:15 for 1st-3rd grade, and 4:10-4:20 for 4th-6th grade.  Students who are picked up more than 15 minutes after dismissal more than twice a semester will automatically be charged a late fee of $5 for the first minute and $1 per minute thereafter.  Payment will be expected at the time the student is picked up. If your child has not been picked up by 5:00 p.m., they will go to KidsSmart and your family will be responsible for fees to KidsSmart as well.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.  

  • Denison’s CSC met last Tuesday, January 24th, to review the budget and make staffing decisions for the 2023-2024 school year. The meeting agenda and minutes can be reviewed here.   The next CSC meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 15th to avoid meeting on Valentine’s Day.  

  • Current ECE3 families or new for the 2023-2024 school year ECE3/ECE4 families, please remember you need to complete both the Universal Pre-K application and DPS’s School Choice applications for ECE in the 2023-2024 school year.  Both are now accepting applications.  Please refer to DPS’s School Choice webpage at https://schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/ or visit  https://cdec.colorado.gov/colorado-universal-preschool for more information.

  • DPS’s Southwest community hub will be offering classes for families this spring.  Check out the attached flier for more details!  (

  • Balarat, DPS’s outdoor education program, is opening an online web store for Balarat branded T-shirts and sweatshirts in youth and adult sizes for a limited time from now through March 14th. This store is only for schools who have a Balarat trip in April and May.  If you are interested in purchasing an item to support and represent Balarat, please see the attached flier.  All proceeds go directly towards supporting and improving the Balarat site and program. The web store will only be open for a LIMITED TIME. After the store closes on March 14th, items will be printed and delivered to Denison shortly after Spring Break.

  • The DPS Foundation is hosting a night with the Colorado Avalanche on Monday, March 20th.  Tickets are available at a discount with a portion of the proceeds going to the DPS Foundation.  Please check out the attached fliers for information in English and Spanish.

  • Este jueves 2 de febrero, Denison Montessori ofrece una noche de educación comunitaria. Esta sesión, presentada por una organización local llamada Grupo de Acceso Educativo, compartirá información centrada en cómo el cerebro se desarrolla, funciona y se ve afectado por el estrés y el trauma. Los presentadores discutirán cómo el estrés puede ser tanto positivo como negativo en el desarrollo de nuestros niños y cómo los adultos pueden comprender y apoyar mejor a los niños en la regulación, el desarrollo de habilidades y la formación de relaciones. Se proporcionará cuidado de niños sin cargo y habrá interpretación disponible en español y vietnamita.
