Good evening, Denison Montessori community.  What a disjointed week last week, with the holiday and the snow day!  We are looking forward to a full week this week.  I am excited to get back into the swing of things this week, too.  Please note there is a new date for the talent show (see the “Mark Your Calendars” section below) and we have lots of opportunities coming up for families to visit Denison.  We hope to see you at an event soon!

 

Announcements

• Denison’s CSC will be meeting this Tuesday, January 24th, to review the budget and make staffing decisions for the 2023-2024 school year.  This meeting is open to any community member and will start at 5:00 p.m. in the library.  You can review the agenda and minutes from previous meetings here.  

• Denver Montessori Junior/Senior High School will be hosting a Deferred Enrollment Night on Tuesday, January 24th at 5:30 p.m. in the Auditorium.  If you have any questions about this event, please contact Obdulia Castillo, DMHS’s Community Liaison, at obdulia_castillo@dpsk12.net. 

• Save the Date! Please hold Thursday, February 2nd, at 5:00 p.m.,for a community education night. Childcare will be provided and Spanish and Vietnamese interpretation will be available.  This session, presented by a local organization called Educational Access Group, will present information focusing on how the brain develops, functions and is impacted by stress and trauma. The presenters will discuss how stress can be both positive and negative in our children’s development and how adults can better understand and support children in regulating, building skills and forming relationships. Content will be based in both the Neurosequential Models of Education and Therapeutics as well as on everyday application with youth and educators.

• Current ECE3 families or new for the 2023-2024 school year ECE3/ECE4 families, please remember you need to complete both the Universal Pre-K application and DPS’s School Choice applications for ECE in the 2023-2024 school year.  Both are now accepting applications.  Please refer to DPS’s School Choice webpage at https://schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/ or visit  https://cdec.colorado.gov/colorado-universal-preschool for more information.  

• Lower Elementary families, our Lower Elementary classes will be hosting Watch Me Work Night on Wednesday, February 8th. Please watch for more information coming soon.  

• In conjunction with Lower Elementary’s Watch Me Work night, our community partner, Montessori on Wheels, will be bringing the Montessori bus to Denison on February 8th.  We will share more details about this visit as they become available.  

• To ensure the Social Emotional well-being of our students, we have been implementing a universal social and emotional screening for students called the BASC-3 BESS (Behavior and Emotion Screening System). Students 3rd-6th grade will complete a self-report, and parents of students ECE-6th can complete a parent questionnaire, using a link provided below. Universal social and emotional screening can provide a fair and impartial way of looking at how students are progressing in their social and emotional development.  Screenings can also help identify areas where school personnel can improve or adjust our supports. For more information and to fill out a questionnaire for your student (ECE-6th grade) please click for English, or Español. Please complete the questionnaire above by Monday, February 7th, 2022.  If you would like your child to OPT OUT of the universal social and emotional screener, please click for English, Español, Tiếng Việt. Please turn in the OPT OUT form to your child’s classroom teacher.
