Good evening, Denison Montessori community! Thank you for your patience with the rough road conditions around the school last week, and a special thanks to the folks who jumped out of their own cars to help other community members get their cars out of the snowy street! School Choice season starts on Friday, January 13th, and ends Tuesday, February 14th. There are three dates and they are filling up quickly!
With the state of Colorado’s commitment to universal pre-kindergarten for ECE students, there are some significant changes to the school choice process for ECE families. Please watch for more information coming soon in a separate ReachWell message.
Are you planning for your children to return to Denison for the 2023-2024 school year? Whether you know for sure or not, please complete this survey to help us plan for the 2023-2024 school year. Thank you to the families who have already completed this short survey!
To ensure the Social Emotional well-being of our students, we have been implementing a universal social and emotional screening for students called the BASC-3 BESS (Behavior and Emotion Screening System). Students 3rd-6th grade will complete a self-report, and parents of students ECE-6th can complete a parent questionnaire, using a link provided below. Universal social and emotional screening can provide a fair and impartial way of looking at how students are progressing in their social and emotional development. Screenings can also help identify areas where school personnel can improve or adjust our supports. Denison’s incredible 6th grade students are planning a talent show for students in 1st-6th grade. This event, which will be open to the community, will take place in the multi-purpose room starting at 5:45 on Wednesday, January 25th. We hope to see you there!
Denison’s Collaborative School Committee (CSC) will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, January 24th. This meeting will discuss budget priorities for the 2023-2024 school year.. If you are interested in being part of this conversation, please join us at 5:00 p.m. in the Denison Montessori library.
Save the Date! Please hold Thursday, February 2nd, at 5:00 p.m.,for a community education night. Childcare will be provided and Spanish and Vietnamese interpretation will be available. This session, presented by a local organization called Educational Access Group, will present information focusing on how the brain develops, functions and is impacted by stress and trauma. The presenters will discuss how stress can be both positive and negative in our children’s development and how adults can better understand and support children in regulating, building skills and forming relationships. Content will be based in both the Neurosequential Models of Education and Therapeutics as well as on everyday application with youth and educators.
