Celebrations and thanks

On behalf of Denver Public Schools and Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy (KCAA) we would like to extend our sincere appreciation for all of you who support this school and this community. Whereas we can find many different areas that may need improvement, sometimes we forget to celebrate our accomplishments and achievements. Many of these events happen each day but may be known only to smaller immediate parties. Today we are hoping to change the narrative. In recent events KCAA students and staff have embarked upon several activities and events that we are tremendously proud of. Some of these celebrations demonstrate the spirit of our community that also highlights and celebrates the diversity of our culture (our school's and our individual culture) while uniting our school and community.

Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy (KCAA) has a few upcoming celebrations: Cinco de Mayo, our middle school talent show, thespian awards for our talented troupe, Teacher Appreciation Week, and secondary arts showcases. (See our calendar for details.) In addition, there's the ritual of graduations where our students will mark important transitions from kindergarten into the rest of grade school, from fifth-grade child to young adult, from middle school young person to teen, and teen to graduating adult.

I hope parents join our school, our students, and our teachers to celebrate these important events and milestones that display our culture, our school culture, and our students' talents and achievements. I know I'm excited to see this community come together in celebration. - Dr. Anthony McWright, KCAA Principal.

School of Choice Round 2 is now open through Friday, Aug.30, 2024. Keep in mind that with this round there is a waiting list.

We invite all our incoming 9th graders to register for our 9th Grade Academy during the summer. This is a great opportunity to meet some teachers, make new friends, and earn high school credit. For more information and to register read the letter attached.

Get into opera for ages 10+! Attend Samson and Delilah Student Dress Rehearsal on Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, 1385 Curtis Street, Denver, CO 80204. Tickets are $12 per grade school student, $15 per college student, and $20 per adult chaperone.

One supervising teacher (admitted free of charge) per ten students under the age of 18.

Due to the content of this performance, the recommended age range is 10+.

Scholarships available.

Join us in supporting the Colorado Rapids on May 11th as they take on the San Jose Earthquakes at Dicks Sporting Goods Park at 7:30 p.m or Saturday, June 15th versus Austin FC. Kindergartener continuation: June 4th from 9-10 am.

5th grade continuation: June 3rd from 9-10 am

8th grade continuation: May 30th, 9:30- 10:30 am

12th grade graduation: May 20th, 3:30 - 5:30 invitations have been sent to families

8th grade Elitches field trip from 9:15 - 5:30 more information coming up soon

Thespian Awards- Thursday, May 2nd from 5:30 -6:30 pm. Parents and family members are welcome.

Elementary and Middle School parents, for the 5 de Mayo event if you want your student/s to play on the bounce house you need to come to the main office to sign a waiver, otherwise your student will not be allow to use the bounce house. You have until next Thursday, May 2nd at 3:45 to stop at the main office and request a waiver.
