03/07/24, 5:31 PM

Dear Families,

Spring weather is here! It looks like more precipitation is on the way tomorrow. Please drive safely and send your student with warm layers, especially if they are going on a field trip.

Tuesday, March 12: Social Media Safety Training for Families

We encourage all our families to learn more about keeping your children safe Snapchat and other apps. Next Tuesday, DPS is hosting an online workshop to show you how to support your kids online and prevent cyberbullying.

Join FACE University for a Social Media Safety training for families on March 12 from 5-6 p.m. This session will provide resources and tips for families on the dangers of social media and how to help their students stay safe and smart online.

Use this session to gain valuable information and collaborate with other families on technology safety solutions. After this session, we will launch an interactive training for DPS families to earn a social media safety certificate. Learn more and RSVP.

Wednesday, March 13: Family Fun Night

Our final Family Fun Night will be next Wednesday from 5:30-7:00. Join us for a pizza dinner, magic shows, and activities led by the Discovery Link staff.

Update: Adult English Classes Starting Soon!

Thank you for your interest in the Adult English Classes! We will be starting classes at Barney Ford soon. Registration information will be sent out as soon as the details are finalized. In the meantime, here are answers to the questions asked in our survey.

  • Who will teach the classes? - Native English speakers will be the lead teachers in the class.
  • Would it be at school?  Yes, at Barney Ford
  • How many weeks do you see the course going? We will begin with an 8-week course.
  • What does it take to enter?  We will send a registration link once we have identified teachers and have the start date.
  • Would it only be in spring?  Yes, this will be before the end of this school year.  We are trying the class to see if it can be offered again next school year.
  • Will the teacher be bilingual too?  I'm not sure of this yet.  We teach the classes at our center to people from 37 different countries, so are not able to provide bilingual instruction in all of the languages we support.  Our teaching method is more of an immersion style so everyone feels welcome (including the other families that are not Spanish speakers).
  • What materials would we need?  We will provide the materials.
  • What if I can’t afford to attend? We charge a minimal fee for the class to include teacher support, books and classroom supplies, and organizing the classes.  If the fee is a hardship, we can provide scholarship help.
  • Will they have childcare -  Unfortunately, we cannot provide childcare (unless the school coordinates this with the students)
  • Are they for beginners? - We will start a class for beginners and evaluate if we add other levels in the future.
  • I want more information about the classes, thank you - Please visit our website to see more information about our school www.englishlearningcenterdenver.org

Home Visits

Spring Parent Teacher Home Visit (PTHV) Week is coming up March 4-10! PTHVs are a great way to build relationships and trust between educators, students and families. Please reach out to your teacher if you’d like to arrange a visit. Visits can be at your house, a park, or other common space. It’s a great way for families and teachers to get to know each other better.
