DSST: Cole Incident on Campus Today
11/16/23, 6:07 PM
Dear DSST: Cole Families:
It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents related to student safety. I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred on campus today, November 16.
A public physical altercation involving four students occurred during lunch today. The altercation was recorded by another student and shared via social media. Given this, several students saw the altercation directly or indirectly.
Thanks to the quick response of our staff and safety partners, the incident was addressed immediately. The families of the involved students have been contacted directly, and we are working with the proper authorities to ensure we maintain a safe campus. Students will receive consequences in alignment with the DPS discipline matrix, and individual and student safety plans and supports will be created.
We encourage you to speak with your student about taking down any social media posts related to this altercation in order to help our community heal from this incident.
I want to commend our students, staff and safety partners for the quick and professional response today. I am truly grateful for the strong community we have. The safety of your children is of paramount importance, and we continue to do everything in our power to provide a safe and vibrant learning environment for them to enjoy every day.
Unrelated to this incident, we also lost power on campus this afternoon. All students were safe, and we were able to continue learning without disruptions. If this power outage will affect school tomorrow, we will let you know as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on your email and text messages for updates.
If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Best,
Ian McIntire
DSST: Cole Campus Director
