DSST: Aurora Science & Tech Middle School

DSST Dispatch: Wishing you a wonderful summer!

05/25/23, 8:15 AM

On Thursday, April, 27 we celebrated the Class of 2023 with over 8,000 DSST students, staff, parents and community members. The morning was filled with performances from middle and high school groups from across the network and post-secondary decisions from our more than 700 seniors at DSST: Montview, DSST: Green Valley Ranch, DSST: Cole, DSST: College View, DSST: Byers and DSST: Conservatory Green.

We are incredibly proud of what our seniors have accomplished while at DSST and cannot wait to see how they will go on to change the world.

If you were not able to join us in person, or you just want to relive the celebration, check out this senior spotlight video, watch local news coverage here or click here to watch a highlight video of the event.

Network Highlights

Want to see a high school principal punch someone for a good cause? Then you'll want to see this.

  • If you don't know Kryszelda Gorrell (Mendoza), she is the school director at Aurora Science & Tech High School. And, come June 14, she will be entering the ring for a literal fight against cancer. Gorrell will be participating in the Rumble in the Rockies V, a Haymakers for Hope charity event at the Mission Ballroom. Read more.

Graduation recap: Congratulations to the Class of 2023!

  • Last week DSST celebrated six graduations: DSST: Byers, DSST: Green Valley Ranch, DSST: Montview, DSST: Conservatory Green, DSST: College View and DSST: Cole. We are so proud of our Class of 2023 seniors and cannot wait to see all they accomplish in the future. Check out some of the graduation highlights here.

In case you missed it

  • DSST participated in the Colfax Marathon as a charity partner for the first time. We had people from all over the network run on behalf of DSST. Check out some photos here.
  • A few of our middle schoolers at DSST: Elevate Northeast are speaking out against gun violence. In April they participated in an afterschool event called “Have Fun Not Guns." FOX 31 shared an article about the event. You can read that here.
  • The nonprofit Shades of Blue hosted a two-day symposium to introduce the next generation to a variety of career opportunities in the aviation industry. DSST students were present at the event and talked with 9 News about the experience. Read the article here.

Resources & Reminders

Healthy start times will go into effect starting in August 2023. Most DPS schools will have new bell times that align with the Board of Education’s Healthy Start Times (HST) resolution. The resolution calls for middle schools and high schools in Denver to start no earlier than 8:20 a.m. each school day to support healthy sleep habits in adolescents. You can see your school's new bell times here.

Individual school calendars for the 2023-24 school year are now available. Check your school's website to see the school-specific calendar. The DSST network-wide calendar is available here.

DSST Public Schools is growing and is always accepting referrals for great people to join our team. We are especially looking for Special Education Teachers, English Language Development Teachers, and Math Teachers for the 2023-24 school year. If DSST hires your referral, you could be eligible for a $500 referral bonus!
