9) Volunteers Needed for Summer Garden Maintenance:

Our Teller Tigers have been hard at work getting the garden ready.  Second and third graders have been prepping the garden, fourth grade planted the first seeds this week and first grade has been growing plants inside for the last two months that will be transplanted into the garden later this month.

To keep all of this awesome work going, we need families to help maintain the garden over the summer.  Families can expect to spend approximately one hour in the garden on each day they sign up for doing weeding, pest control, watering the front planters, and other garden tasks as needed.  In exchange, families are welcome to harvest ripe produce from the garden during their work day.  Complete instructions (including pictures) will be provided prior to your scheduled day - no previous gardening experience is needed.  We are looking for volunteers to come in on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) and midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) throughout summer break - sign up for one day or several.  To sign your family up, please visit our Sign Up Genius page.

10) Project Pipeline:

Project Pipeline is a three-day, in-person summer camp July 1st through 3rd at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (9:00AM-4:30PM MT). Project Pipeline explores architecture and design with LEGOS where kids are challenged to solve environmental and social issues. The camp is taught by talented NOMA Colorado architects, designers, and volunteers, where NOMA stands for the National Organization of Minority Architects. We are seeking students from diverse backgrounds, but all are welcome to apply! The cost is $179 and full scholarships are available. Please use the link below to register, or the QR code in the flyer works too.

11) Eco-Certification Update from the Earth Rangers | Call for Eco-Code Designs:

Thank you to the Teller community for your support of our application to become an EcoSchool through the National Wildlife Federation. The application is almost done and looking pretty strong!

Our last challenge is to create an Eco-Code that reflects Teller's commitment to sustainability and can be used to further establish our school culture. We're hoping that the entire Teller community will take some time to think about this and submit ideas. Then, our Earth Rangers and Girl Scouts will select the TOP 5 designs for voting in a community-wide survey.

Teller's ECO-CODE CHALLENGE:

Thinking about PRIDE, school culture and campus design, create a visual representation of our commitment to the environment.

A few things to keep in mind:

      • Our code should reflect our values.
      • Our code should be easy to remember and recite.
      • Our code should be visually compelling.
      • Our code could include: a tiger, our school colors, campus art, references to the farmer's market and garden, bike walk and roll visuals, neighborhood, community, etc.
      • Other examples of school eco-codes are shown below.

Please email your idea to earthrangers@tellerpta.org by Friday, May 24th.
