10) A Message from the CSC:

Election Results

Thank you to all families who participated in the election to select new CSC parent members for the 2024-2025/2025-2026 school years.  Three members were selected to serve:  Anastasiia Petrova, Ashleigh Payne-Snyder, and Lisa Davis.  They will join three current parent members who will be completing the second year of their term next year:  Kathy Price, Katie Walsh, and Rob Parker.  Jennifer Swarthout will be appointed as the PTA Representative this fall, along with a community representative yet to be determined.   A teacher member(s) will be elected this fall.

Minutes from May 7 CSC Meeting

The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) held their monthly meeting on May 7.  Members of the Teller Community are encouraged to read the full minutes from the meeting.

During the meeting, we primarily discussed enrollment numbers and its budget implications for next year.  During the budgeting process in January, a mistake was made regarding our current enrollment numbers (2023-2024 school year).  The budgeting process is based off of K-5 enrollment numbers, however next year's (2024-2025) budget was mistakenly based off of ECE-5 enrollment numbers for this year.  This discrepancy created an assumption that our current enrollment was 39 students higher than our projected enrollment for next year.  The CSC therefore made a recommendation, which Mrs. Bates followed through on, that we reduce Kindergarten enrollment.  When enrollment numbers for next year came in, we were 27 students less than the projected enrollment. If this deficit continues into September, Teller would owe money back to the district.  The CSC discussed possible ways to alleviate the enrollment deficit including: increasing enrollment, asking the PTA for a one-time gift to cover some of the deficit, and cutting the budget (i.e. staff positions).  The CSC declined to make a recommendation at this meeting, citing the lack of a quorum and our confidence in Mrs. Bates’s leadership.  The CSC left the door open for another meeting and a possible recommendation.

CSC members want to ensure that all members of the Teller Community feel informed, but that they also have a voice.  Please feel free to reach out to any CSC member with questions or concerns you might have.  CSC Members for the 2023-2024 school year include:

      • Sabrina Bates, Principal, sbates@dpsk12.net

11) Volunteers Needed for Summer Garden Maintenance:

Our Teller Tigers have been hard at work getting the garden ready.  Second and third grade have been prepping the garden, fourth grade planted the first seeds last week, first grade has been growing plants inside for the last two months that will be transplanted into the garden by our third grade next week.  To keep all of this awesome work going, we need families to help maintain the garden over the summer.

Families can expect to spend approximately one hour in the garden on each day they sign up for doing weeding, pest control, watering the front planters, and other garden tasks as needed.  In exchange, families are welcome to harvest ripe produce from the garden during their work day.  Complete instructions (including pictures) will be provided prior to your scheduled day - no previous gardening experience is needed.  We are looking for volunteers to come in on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) and midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) throughout summer break - sign up for one day or several.  To sign your family up, please visit our Sign Up Genius page.
