1) Teller Elementary School's Book Swap!

We are excited to announce Teller’s Book Swap!  Those long days of summer bring time for students to enjoy reading.  What is better than “new to you” books to encourage students to read?  We will welcome donations of gently loved books that we will organize and display in the library.  Every student will be able to choose books to take home and enjoy.

    • BOOK COLLECTION: MAY 7-MAY 17

Please donate gently used books that are appropriate for students ECE-5th.

Students can donate books in their classrooms or in the library.  You can also donate books in the bins at the school entrances.

    • BOOK SWAP:  MAY 20-23

Students will visit the library with their classes where they will have a chance to browse and choose books to take home.

We are counting on our wonderful community to make this event a success!  Please start cleaning out those bookshelves!

Please contact Ms. Rosie in the library with any questions bridget_rosenberg@dpsk12.net

The Mayor’s Office of Community Outreach is currently focused on launching Community Conversations across the city to support Denverites to get informed, engaged, and identify points of action on the 2024 Citywide Goals. In alignment with the Safe Denver Goal, Mayor Mike Johnston, in partnership with city agencies and City Council, will start this work by hosting a series of Community Conversations around Safety. I know this has been a priority for many of District 10 residents, Registered Neighborhood Organizations (RNOs), and many other organizations in the area. The main point of contact from the Mayor’s Office on this is myself, Alex Gutierrez, Senior Outreach Manager, and I can be reached via email here: alex.gutierrez@denvergov.org.

At this Community Conversation, neighbors will engage with representatives and leaders from city agencies including the Department of Safety, the Office of Children’s Affairs, the Office of Human Rights and Community Partnerships, and the Office of Social Equity and Innovation through roundtable conversations following a presentation on the safety measures being taken to support the region. We know this work is only possible with the support and collaboration of partners like you and given the important work you all do in the District 10 community; we would love to have you join us and ask that you share the information about the event with your networks and neighbors. The participation of your community will help us elevate the important work already happening in support of the community, and better understand how to address the safety concerns of those living in the area.

Language Interpretation will be provided for those who need it. We will also have food and refreshments at the event. Again, you can click here if you’d like to let us know you are coming! Attached please find a flier you can print or email, and flier sized for a social media post that you can share with your network and community who you think may be interested in joining us for this Community Conversation.

11) Volunteers Needed for Summer Garden Maintenance:

Our Teller Tigers have been hard at work getting the garden ready.  Second and third grade have been prepping the garden, fourth grade planted the first seeds this week and first grade has been growing plants inside for the last two months that will be transplanted into the garden later this month.

To keep all of this awesome work going, we need families to help maintain the garden over the summer.  Families can expect to spend approximately one hour in the garden on each day they sign up for doing weeding, pest control, watering the front planters, and other garden tasks as needed.  In exchange, families are welcome to harvest ripe produce from the garden during their work day.  Complete instructions (including pictures) will be provided prior to your scheduled day - no previous gardening experience is needed.  We are looking for volunteers to come in on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) and midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) throughout summer break - sign up for one day or several.  To sign your family up, please visit our Sign Up Genius page.

12) Find fun and friends at YMCA Summer Camp:

If you’re still working on summer plans for the kids, YMCA of Metro Denver Summer Camp has got you covered — with over 20 locations across the metro area, qualified and caring staff and lots of specialty options, like art, adventure, cooking and STEM. YMCA members get a discount on camp costs, and there is also financial assistance available for those who qualify. Join us for a summer of fun, friends and memories!

13) March at DPS Pride:

DPS will march in the Denver Pride Parade on June 22! To get more information about marching with Team DPS, fill out this form so we know the best way to get in touch with you this summer. All DPS students, team members and families are welcome, but space is limited!
