4. Shoutout to the Teller Earth Rangers

Earth Rangers, A Teller-Based Middle School Group, Featured On Colorado Public Radio

On most Tuesdays at Teller, a middle school sustainability club called Earth Rangers meets to figure out what they can do for the planet.

Their group was featured on Colorado Public Radio on Thursday, April 18 in a story that highlights their campaign to convince Denver Public Schools to fund Eco-Groovy Heating And Cooling

If the Earth Rangers are successful, Teller, and the other 29 schools that still need air conditioning, will get a heat pump, which can both heat and cool the school while also reducing Teller's greenhouse gas emissions. Check out their delightful video that explains how this works, sign their petition, and find out how you can get involved on the Earth Rangers website.

Stay tuned for more information about Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day on May 8! And keep collecting that plastic film (Ridwell pickup is April 30)!

***Also, SHOUTOUT to the Earth Rangers for decorating the library for Earth Day***

12. CSC New Member Applications

The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is currently accepting applications for parent members for the 2024-2025/2025-2026 school years.  There are three open positions up for election.  If you are interested, you can complete an application form online at the following links:

The application deadline is Friday May 3 at 3:00 pm.  If more than three applications are received, an election will be held May 6-10.

The purpose of the CSC is to enhance student achievement, engage the school community, provide strategic direction as stated in the Universal Improvement Plan (UIP), ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and bring community and parent voice to the table.  For more information on CSC, please visit https://bit.ly/3x86vpa

The CSC is composed of six parents, one PTA representative, no more than five teachers, and one community member.  Members commit to a two-year term.  The primary role of the CSC is to advise the principal on the school's Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) and budget.  Additionally, the CSC provides input on program design changes, school and community engagement, principal evaluation/selection, school schedules and safety and discipline procedures.  The committee typically meets on the first Tuesday of the month from 5-7 pm from September to May.

13. Update from Teller's Nursing Office

We have been seeing a lot of red itchy eyes and realize that allergies act up this time of the year. We have trees surrounding our playground outside and the pollen tends to stick to little hands and end up in eyes.

We are encouraging hand washing and providing cool paper towels to wipe eyes.  If your child takes seasonal allergy medicine, now might be the time to break it out.

Please continue to monitor red, itchy, watery eyes. It would be concerning for pink eye,  if your child has a thick crust/discharge form on their eyelashes.
