3. ECE and SchoolChoice:

Communications have been sent to families regarding the SchoolChoice process. Families who participated in Round 1 received notification of their school matches this week. Please log into the application to see your student’s school match. Applications for SchoolChoice Round 2 opened on April 10 at 10 a.m.

At DPS, we believe that every student deserves access to high-quality education that fosters their growth, development and love for learning. If you have an ECE student for the 2024-25 school year and have not already submitted your ECE application, we encourage you to do so in Round 2. We have available seats ready to serve families across every region of our district!

If your family completes an ECE-4 application during SchoolChoice, your next step is to complete the Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK) application to receive funding through the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC). If your family completes an ECE-3 application, no action is currently required. The state of Colorado’s UPK pre-registration application for the 2024-25 school year is currently open and closes on Thursday, March 28. For more information about the UPK process, please review this update.

By enrolling your child, you are providing them with a supportive and inclusive learning environment where they can thrive alongside their peers. Our dedicated teachers and staff are committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment that encourages curiosity, creativity and social-emotional development. Research shows that attendance in ECE positively impacts students’ success in elementary school and beyond.

11. A Message From the Teller Health Office:

12. Minutes from April 2 CSC Meeting:

The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) met on Tuesday April 2 for their monthly meeting. Members of the Teller Community are encouraged to read the full minutes from the meeting. A summary of the meeting is below.

During the meeting, we finalized details for electing CSC members for the 2024-2025 school year.  We will be increasing the number of parents who serve on the CSC from four to six. Three parent seats will be up for election for next school year.  We highly encourage parents to consider applying for the CSC.  Per state statute, membership of the CSC should aim to represent the diverse makeup of the school. We highly encourage all parents to apply for the CSC, but in particular are seeking candidates who are non-white, have a primary language other than English or who will be parents of ECE, Kindergarten, or Second graders (for 2024-2025 school year).  An application/nomination form will be made available from April 22 - May 3.  If more than three applications/nominations are received, then an election will be held electronically the week of May 6-10.   In addition to parent members, the CSC will be appointing a PTA Representative and Community Member.  Teacher and Classified Staff positions will be elected by their peers in August. For more information on Collaborative School Committees, please review this information from DPS.

We also engaged in a presentation regarding Teller’s Discipline Policy.  Mr. Smartt reviewed the Teller Elementary Behavior Referral Chart, which seeks to define the scope of Teacher-managed behavior referrals versus Support Staff-managed behavior referrals and appropriate responses to different types of behaviors. It is modeled upon the DPS Discipline Matrix and is new this year. The chart has been helpful to triage behavior referrals and empower teachers to support behavior referrals in the classroom.

The CSC will hold their next meeting on May 7 from 5-7 pm in the Teller Library.  All members of the Teller community are welcome to attend the meeting and a time will be set aside for public comment.

CSC members want to ensure that all members of the Teller Community feel informed, but that they also have a voice.  Please feel free to reach out to any CSC member with questions or concerns you might have.  CSC Members for the 2023-2024 school year include:

      • Sabrina Bates, Principal, sbates@dpsk12.net
      • Jason Smartt, Assistant Principal, jason_smartt@dpsk12.net
