8) Minutes from CSC Meeting on December 12

The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) met on Tuesday December 12 for their monthly meeting.  Minutes from the meeting can be read here.

During the meeting, the presentation on class sizes during the Teller Town Hall on December 5 was summarized.  Class sizes are up this year because our enrollment did not follow historical trends - fewer families left Teller and more families moved into the neighborhood.  We discussed the Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) goals for this year which include 1) maintaining and improving students social-emotional health, 2) supporting teachers to consistently implement Tier 2 interventions related to behavior and academics in the classroom, 3) supporting students who are currently at grade level to maintain or improve their percentile rank, and 4) supporting students who are currently below grade level to make one years growth.  Budget priorities are created with these goals in mind.  We also began our budget discussions.

While official budget information will not be made available until January, based upon information provided by the Finance office and our own assumptions, we are estimating a necessary budget decrease that could range from $8,000 to $150,000.  A variety of options to achieve this decrease were considered and the CSC made a preliminary recommendation to achieve a $150,000 cut.  This recommendation will be presented to the Senior Leadership Team and a final recommendation will be made in January when full budget information is available.

The CSC is a group of teachers and parents whose role is to provide guidance and recommendations to the Principal about spending priorities, the school’s Unified Improvement Plan (UIP), and increasing family engagement.  Additionally, the CSC provides input on program design changes, principal evaluation/selection, school schedules and safety and discipline procedures.  The next CSC meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday January 23 from 5-7 pm in the Teller Library.  This date is subject to change pending receiving final budget information from the district.  Meetings are open to all and there is time set aside during each meeting for Public Comment where questions, concerns, pats on the back, etc. can be shared.

11) Changes to the ECE Application Process

All ECE-3 and ECE-4 families will need to participate in DPS SchoolChoice to match with their preferred school for the 2024-25 school year. This is a change from last year as families will be applying through DPS SchoolChoice first instead of Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK).

Schools should be directing families to the DPS SchoolChoice application for ECE enrollment. We strongly encourage families to submit their ECE application during Round 1, as this will offer them the best chance of obtaining a seat at their desired preschool program. Round 1 opens at 10 a.m. on Jan. 11 and closes at 4 p.m. on Feb. 12, 2024. After Round 1, the DPS Enrollment Services and Early Education teams will reach out to families to provide the next steps for completing an application for funding support through UPK.

Please refer to the Preschool Round 1 Toolkit for resources to support ECE enrollment for your families.

Questions? Contact Andrea Ives or Laurie Premer.
