Good Morning Teller Families!

One week complete! It is so amazing to see all of the new and returning Teller Tigers get into the school spirit and familiarize themselves with the school! There are so many amazing things coming up within the next 3 weeks, please read this email in its entirety to best prepare yourself for all the great things to come!! 🐯

  1. School-Wide Teller Communication:🏫

    • Teller’s App is our main mode of communication, please download Reachwell.

    • Weekly PRIDE Post - School-wide information pushed our app

    • Teller Website - The same information pushed on our app will be published on our website.

        2) Medication Form:🩺

Students can be given medication at school only when accompanied by a completed DPS medication form, signed by a doctor and parent/guardian and sent to the health office. This form is available and can be found with the nurse or in the front office.  Please advise the office and/or the school nurse when any medication is brought to school by a student.  Students may not carry prescription medication or over the counter medication in the building.  Teachers are not allowed to administer medications at school.

For any concerns or questions, contact the school nurse or health technician.

         3) Teller Food Pantry:🥗

Thank you for making the pantry Grand Opening a huge success! Our pantry team is continuing to work hard to keep the pantry stocked with fresh food! We have ordered the following fresh items and hope to have even more available for Friday's open pantry!

    • Eggs (30 dzn)

    • Mini watermelon (18)

    • Fresh corn on the cob (90 lbs!)

    • Cucumbers (55 lbs)

    • Grapefruit (35 lbs)

The pantry is meant to nourish our community and everything is free to all Teller families, no

questions asked. Beginning this Friday, August 25th, the pantry will be open each Friday, 7:15-9:30am

and 12:30-5:00pm as well as Tuesday 12:30-2:30pm.

In order to help us with our planning, we are asking families who are interested in utilizing the pantry,

either in shopping during open pantry hours, having a prepacked food bag or a combination of the

two, to fill out this form.

If you are interested in volunteering your time to benefit the pantry, you can complete this interest

form. Please note that we are still ironing some things out, but will reach out soon!

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions please contact us at backpackfriends@gmail.com

         4) Visiting and Entering Teller:

Please read this support document to familiarize yourself with the safety protocol at Teller when entering or exiting the building:

    • As a reminder anyone that does not have badge access to the building needs to ring the bell at the main entrance.

    • DO NOT hold the door open for anyone when entering or leaving. Yes it is polite but safety is the first priority.

    • A physical form of identification is required when entering the building regardless if it is needed or not. The front desk is new this year and we are still trying to figure out all the kinks to the system.

    • To help please do not gather around the desk and block from helping out the next person. Once checked in, go to your destination to help relieve congestion in the hall.

    • Please do not hover, lean, or reach over or go to the other side without being asked. This is not a place to leave your belongings to pick up later. Be considerate of the fact that this is someone's workspace.

5) GT Family Info Night: 🎒

On Thursday, September 7th, Teller will be hosting two GT Family Info Night sessions from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. (virtually on Google Meet: To join the video meeting, click this link: https://meet.google.com/iwq-fhrz-qhe) and  from 6:00 pm-6:45 pm (in-person in the library) for families of students who are identified as GT, HGT, and ME; this session is also open to anyone who is interested in finding out more about the identification process at Teller. In this informational session, Mrs. Dorsey will discuss the GT service model and schedule at Teller, provide information about the ALP process, and answer any questions. If you are interested in attending, but cannot make it, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Dorsey with questions at marian_dorsey@dpsk12.org.

       6)Teller’s Annual Block Party:🎞️

Teller’s Annual Block Party will take place on Friday, September 8th. Please join us for a family-friendly, free event! We will have a variety of food trucks, inflatable obstacle course, rock climbing wall, Jacob's ladder, dunk tank, Spider Jump, 4-Way Bungee Trampoline, and the "Sandlot" movie shown under the stars! We encourage you to invite your friends, neighbors, and community members as our hope is to build a stronger community. Teller enrollment is not required! Families may purchase food from one of the incredible food trucks on site or bring food from home (please be conscious of allergens that may be present). Please feel free to bring lawn-chairs or a blanket to sit on while enjoying the movie! Indoor restrooms and water fountains will be available. Please see the  Block Party flyer!

*Please note that adult supervision of children is required at all times*

       7) Teller’s Nut Policy:🥜

Teller is a nut aware school, not a nut free school. This means that while we will strive to minimize the presence of nuts and nut products in our school, we understand that it is nearly impossible to guarantee a completely nut-free environment.

With that being said, our goal is to create an environment where those with nut allergies are less likely to encounter nuts and nut products. In order to achieve this goal, we will adhere to the following school-wide precautions:

    • Lunch: We will only be serving chickpea and jelly sandwiches at lunch this year. Peanut butter and sunflower butter are not options at Teller.

    • Preferential Seating: We no longer have a “nut free” table in the cafeteria. Instead, students with nut allergies (or other food allergies) will be provided with preferential seating (sitting at the end of a table) in the cafeteria.

    • Snacks: We will strongly encourage students and staff to avoid bringing nuts and nut products to school.

    • Classroom Treats: We will inform families if there is a child in class (name omitted) that has a nut allergy and ask that all treats be nut-free whenever possible.

    • Parent Communication: Teachers will inform families if/when a class treat is going to be provided so an alternative treat can be provided, if need be.

    • Education and Awareness: Teachers will discuss nut allergies with their students in age-appropriate ways. This includes reinforcing that food sharing is not allowed.

     8) Farmer’s Markets are BACK! : 🥕

Swing by the Teller Farmer’s Market, on the dates below, for some fresh produce from a local farm! There will be a variety of vegetables/fruits available at every market. Each one will be a student led function that takes place right after school by the pavilion.

    • Friday, September 1st- Kraft’s 5th grade class

    • Thursday, September 7th- Gray’s 5th grade class

    • Friday, September 15th- Schwarz’s 5th grade class

    • Friday, September 29th- Kraft’s 4th grade class

    • Friday, October 6th - Gray’s 4th grade class

    • Friday, October 20th - Schwarz’s 4th grade class

      9) Longmont Dairy Caps: 🥛

Teller Elementary School collects milk caps from Longmont Dairy. For every cap collected, Longmont Dairy donates $0.05 back to the school. The black collection can is back inside the school's front entrance (Door 1).  This bin is for Longmont Dairy Milk Caps only.  Please don't put trash in there; it is not emptied regularly.  The Capitol Heights Pharmacy also collects the caps on our behalf.

Before you bring them in,

1) RINSE THEM

2) Let them dry

3) Place the CLEAN capas in a bag and seal or tie it up

4) Drop them off, and be done!

     10) Student Picture Day: 📸

Please mark your calendars as September 5th as this  will be student picture day! Students will be taking home the Dorian order forms next Thursday, 8/31,  in the first Thursday folder of the year! Please keep an eye out for that!
