Teller Book Swap

We are excited to announce Teller’s Second Annual Book Swap!  Those long days of summer bring time for students to enjoy reading.  What is better than “new to you” books to encourage students to read?  We will welcome donations of gently loved books that we will organize and display in the library.  Every student will be able to choose books to take home and enjoy.

BOOK COLLECTION: MAY 8th - MAY 18th

Please donate gently used books that are appropriate for students ECE-5th.

Students can donate books in their classrooms or in the library.  You can also donate books in the bin at the main entrance of the school.

BOOK SWAP:  MAY 22nd - 25th

Students will visit the library where they will have a chance to browse and choose books to take home.

We are counting on our wonderful community to make this event a success!  Please start cleaning out those bookshelves!

Fall After School Enrichment Updates

We wanted to follow up and share some exciting news about Enrichments for the 23/24 School Year at Teller!

We are currently solidifying the diverse offerings that will be available next year with trusted and valued community partners. As we have already shared, enrichment programs will be starting on the first day of school August 21, 2023. Each day will have more than 100 spots available and we are making all efforts to have as many 1.5-2 hour long programs as possible.

The Fall 2023 Brochure will be shared with the Teller Community no later than Monday, May 15th. The brochure will have information about registration and each program's details, cost, grade requirements, and etc.

We will be opening registration for Fall 2023 before the end of the school year and it will be held on the DPS School MySchoolBucks platform.

A Teller Garden Update

Welcome to our school's garden! We're so excited to share with you all the amazing things that are happening here. Our wonderful Volunteer Lisa Davis has helped lead the charge with Mr. Smartt.

First, we've installed a brand new irrigation drip system. This means that we can water our plants more efficiently and effectively, which is great news for the environment and for our water bill!

Our first graders have been hard at work starting some warm season plants in their classrooms. This is a great way for them to learn about plants and how they grow. They've been watering their plants and making sure they get plenty of light, and soon they'll be ready to transplant them into the garden.

Meanwhile, our third graders have been busy planting cool season plants in the garden. They've been learning about which plants thrive in cooler weather, and they've been using their green thumbs to help these plants grow strong and healthy. They've also been adding compost to the soil, which is a great way to add nutrients and improve the soil's structure.

We're so proud of all the hard work that our students have put into the garden so far, and we can't wait to see what they'll accomplish next. We are excited to supplement our Backpack friends with fresh produce from our garden.

WALK, BIKE, and ROLL DAY

Thank you to everyone who participated in our spring Walk, Bike, and Roll Day! Thank you to the Earth Rangers for rallying the troops and supporting this important initiative!

Below are some exciting metrics from Walk, Bike, and Roll Day:

  • The car drop off line was reduced by approximately 50%.

  • We counted over 64 bikes at various racks around the school.

Sign Up for Transportation Services by June 16th

The Transportation Opt-in Program is now live on the Parent Portal. If your student is eligible and you would like them to use DPS Transportation in the 2023-24 school year, please opt-in now. Click here for instructions on how to opt-in. Families have until Friday, June 16 to let us know if your eligible student will be using our services next school year. If you don’t opt-in by June 16, your student could experience a delay in service. Note: McKinney-Vento, Special Education, Foster Care and newcomer students will not need to opt-in because they will automatically be routed for 2023-24 transportation service.

TELLER x RIDWELL

Thanks to our amazing community, we collected and diverted 40 pounds of plastic film from the landfill this week! That's A LOT of thin plastic. Plastic film is a main contaminant in our recycling stream. Instead of heading for the landfills or oceans, your plastic film will be made into composite decking and outdoor furniture with the help of Ridwell and Trex!

If you'd like to continue properly recycling your plastic film at home, you can still sign up for Ridwell using get.ridwell.com/teller-elementary by May 8th and Ridwell will donate $25 to our school for every sign up! We've raised $50 so far, let's get some more sign-ups this weekend!

Longmont Dairy Milk Caps

Teller families have been collecting Longmont Dairy caps all year. Milk caps for MOOOLA is a program sponsored by Longmont Dairy that helps students earn money for their school and students. Longmont Dairy milk caps are worth 5¢ each and are redeemable for cash by participating schools. Our last day to collect milk caps is Wednesday, May 31st.

Families can continue to collect caps throughout the summer and bring them to school at the start of the 2023-2024 school year, or you can drop them off at Capitol Heights Pharmacy who will be collecting caps on our behalf during the summer months.
