Discovery Link Registration Update

04/19/23, 12:19 PM

Dear Teller Families,

I am reaching out to apologize for the stress registering for Discovery Link has caused many of you. As an early start school, I know how important before and after school care is for our families. With that being said, I spoke with Jesse Broadfoot, the Director of Extended Learning and Community Schools this morning. He shared some reassuring information with me that I think is important for you all to know.

Due to the SchoolWorks site crashing on Monday, The Department of Extended Learning and Community Schools closed registration on Monday and reopened it today at 6am. As soon as families tried to login and register today, spots were filled. Due to these difficulties, I have been told that The Department of Extended Learning and Community Schools will be taking more students than current capacity numbers. For families who have not been able to register, I urge you to call 720-423-1781 or email discovery_link@dpsk12.org.

For choice families who need before and/or after school care, but  have not heard from School Choice. Please do the following:

  1. Register for Discovery Link at your first choice school.

  2. If you end up at another school and Discovery Link is offered there, The Department of Extended Learning and Community Schools will transfer your registration.

  3. If the other school does not offer Discovery Link, The Department of Extended Learning and Community Schools will process a refund for your registration fee.

  4. If you have questions, please call 720-423-1781 or email discovery_link@dpsk12.org.

In the event you are not able to secure a spot with Discovery Link, we have  two other options. Teller has three families who offer private before and after school care. I have included their names and contact information below.

Shelly St. John: 720-244-2208 or sastjohn@gmail.com

Liza Aiken: 720-544-1303 or geezgirl@gmail.com

Anjelina Jobito: 720-461-4907 or anjelinajobito@gmail.com

Additionally, I have made the decision that Teller will take over all after school enrichment programming for the 2023 - 2024 school year. With all after school activities managed in house, we will have the ability to grow our before and after school offerings and have more family input in what providers are brought into our school. This fall, we will have over 30 outside vendors offering programs five days a week. This will be in addition to after school music, band, choir, and Number Ninjas. We will be able to offer 700 spots across the week and our goal is to have the majority of those classes be 1.5 - 2 hour long programs. All after school enrichment classes will begin the first day of school, so families will not need to worry about figuring out childcare for the first few weeks of the school year.

Teller’s after school enrichment catalog will be available mid-May with registration opening before the 2022-2023 school year ends.

I hope that this information alleviates some of the stress you have been feeling this week. I understand that there is a need for after school support, and I will continue to find opportunities and solutions to support our community.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions and/or concerns.

Best,

Sabrina Bates, Principal
