Student Led Conferences: Wednesday, February 15th

Please join us for Student Led Conferences on Wednesday, February 15th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. These student-led conferences will be conducted in classrooms. There are no scheduled conference times; these conferences are “come as you wish” anytime between 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. After your child leads you through their collection of work to share, you may then make your way to the art room, music room, and/or the gymnasium to see your child’s special’s teacher. Our interventionists, ELA, and HGT teachers will also be available that evening.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Your child will be in charge of the conference and has planned specific areas to share. Please allow your child to proceed with their plan.

  • You will be shown completed work, see demonstrations of skills, and be told about the class and your child’s part in it.

  • Several children will be conducting conferences in the classroom at the same time. Please kindly switch off your mobile phone during the conference so that your attention to your child’s presentation can be uninterrupted.

  • Your child may be unsure of your reactions to their presentation. Please provide encouragement and feedback as your child proceeds. Ask questions to clarify and try not to direct or control the conference.

  • Teachers will be present to facilitate and support the conference. This will not be the time for a parent-teacher conference.  If you would like an individual conference, please email your child’s teacher to set up a time.

  • Expect your child to share his/her strengths, successes, best work, and favorite subjects. Your child may suggest areas for improvement. Discussion of a plan or goal for improvement is encouraged.

3rd Grade Black History Month Performance

On Thursday, February 23rd the 3rd grade will present "Lift Every Voice, A Black History Musical Celebration".  Here they will present a variety of songs throughout the century that represent black music and culture as celebration to Black History Month. In order to assure a smooth and enriching experience for all our students we are asking the following things:

1. Students need to be at school (drop in the staff parking lot) by 4:45 p.m. and will gather in the gym to prepare for the performance.

2. Students should wear concert attire. (No pictures, words or logos. Solid colors and simple patterns are fine)

3. Parents/guardians, and spectators can enter the auditorium at 4:45 p.m. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis.

4. All spectators MUST be in a seat because our students will be in the aisles the entire show.

5. We ask all spectators to stay for the entire show.

6. Parents/guardians will pick up their child in the gym at the conclusion of our program.

Please contact Jennifer Bartos at jennifer_bartos@dpsk12.org if you have any questions.
