School Choice Now Open

DPS SchoolChoice for the 2023-24 school year is now open through 4 p.m. Feb. 14. DPS' annual open enrollment process is for any student who wants or needs to attend a new school for the following school year, particularly incoming kindergarten, sixth- and ninth-grade students. All incoming ECE-3 students, as well as incoming students who reside in an enrollment zone, must complete an application in order to list enrollment preferences.

Research your school options using School Finder, the Enrollment Guide, or by contacting schools directly. Once you have your preferred schools in mind, rank them in order of preference (up to 12) and submit your SchoolChoice application by the deadline. There is no advantage to submitting early. Simply submit your application anytime between now and 4 p.m. Feb. 14. Families will be notified of their results in late March.

Call 720-423-3493, email schoolchoice@dpsk12.org or visit schoolchoice.dpsk12.org for more information.

ECE-3 and ECE-4 Families: Complete Both a SchoolChoice and UPK Colorado Application

Along with other Colorado school districts, DPS is working with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) to continue expanding its Early Childhood Education program by rolling out a new enrollment process for Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado. This new change will provide tuition support for families. Please refer to this one-pager for more information.

What does this mean for DPS students?

  • UPK Colorado ensures that, in the year before they are eligible for kindergarten, every child is eligible for half-day (minimum 15 hours per week) state-funded, voluntary preschool, beginning in the 2023-24 school year provided they complete the UPK application and attend a school/program that is a participating provider (like DPS).

  • Four-year-olds with qualifying factors are eligible for additional hours of tuition free preschool.

  • Three-year-olds with qualifying factors are eligible for at least part-time (10 hours per week) preschool programming.

With these changes, the SchoolChoice process for ECE families will be much different than in previous years. ECE-3 and ECE-4 families must complete both a SchoolChoice application and a UPK Colorado application. The UPK Colorado application will open on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and close Feb. 15 -- please note that this window and application is separate from our DPS SchoolChoice window and application (Jan. 13-Feb. 14).

Follow the steps in this ECE-3 or ECE-4 flier to complete both a SchoolChoice application and a UPK Colorado application. Fliers in additional languages will be available here.

For more detailed information, read this letter (Letters in other languages are available here.). Given that this is a brand new program and system, we encourage schools and families to continue checking the UPK Colorado webpage and the DPS UPK Colorado landing page regularly for updates.

If you have questions about the UPK Colorado process, call 303-866-5223 or email cdec_upkcolorado@state.co.us.

Yearbook Order

Don’t forget to order a yearbook for the 2022-2023 school year. Yearbook cost $35 each. Yearbooks will not be available for purchase after January 31, 2022. 5th grade families will have the option to purchase a dedication page for their child to recognize their hard work and achievement while at Teller. Yearbooks and 5th grade dedication pages can be purchased on the My School Bucks website. If you have any questions about the yearbook, please email treisi_martinez@dpsk12.org

Spring CogAT Testing Sign Up

If you are interested in having your child (1st, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade only) take the CogAT assessment this spring, please complete the nomination form. Applications can be found at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScunmyJy06R1QW-BL3tv8DpV566k_YgwuXUa6g8spX0JrYj7g/viewform. Applications for testing are due Friday, April 7th. Students can only take one cognitive assessment per calendar year, so if your child was already given the NNAT or the CogAT in the fall, they cannot be assessed again this fall. During the fall semester, DPS students enrolled in Kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th grades are tested with the NNAT as part of the universal screening process; those families do not need to submit this form unless their child was not assessed during the fall screening. If you have any questions, please contact marian_dorsey@dpsk12.org.

Using Safe2Tell Effectively

DPS has been seeing a rise in the number of misused and malicious reporting on our

Safe2Tell safety tip lines. The Safe2Tell tip line is not a resource for general complaints and should only be used in cases of emergency. Please note that false reports are a felony, and subject to criminal penalties according to Senate Bill 21-081. We encourage all parents and students who have a complaint to reach out directly to their schools for more information on how they can receive help or new accommodations. Help us keep DPS safe by using this tool effectively!
