Pink Eye (conjunctivitis)

07/18/22, 4:48 PM

Good Morning Howell Families,

We continue to see several cases of pink eye (conjunctivitis) here at Howell and we must all work together to help prevent the spread. The causes of pink eye can be bacterial, viral, as well as allergies and it's hard to determine what we are seeing the most. Children do not need to be excluded for pink eye unless the child meets other exclusion criteria, such as fever or behavioral change, or if they are unable to follow the instructions below.

Make sure your students are:

  • Washing their hands frequently with soap/water. ****
  • That they are not touching/rubbing their eyes.
  • That they are not sharing supplies right now such as pens, pencils, scissors, etc.

If your student gets seasonal allergies (which are also high right now) I would encourage you to talk to your doctor about what might help with the itchiness and irritation, this will help them keep their fingers out of their eyes.

Additionally, we always have our Denver Health's School-based Health Centers (SBHC) which can see students usually the same day or next day. And, SBHC services are offered at NO COST to all Denver Public Schools (DPS) students! Call 303-602-8958 to schedule an appointment.

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.

Thanks!

¡Gracias!
