Health Reminders and Upcoming Clinics (CORRECTION)

07/18/22, 4:48 PM

Good Evening Howell Families,

I hope you are enjoying your holiday break and staying safe with the increased instances of COVID-19 in our communities. I wanted to take a moment to provide you all with a few reminders and information about upcoming events.

First and foremost, students and staff members with any illness symptoms (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea) must remain home to help prevent the spread of illness. Please make sure to call the attendance line at 720-424-2770 to notify our main office team about your students absence.

If you student is ill with any of the above symptoms, there are two recommended ways for your student to get evaluated for COVID-19 at absolutely no cost to you:

  • Your student can meet (in-person or over the phone) with a healthcare provider with Denver Health's School-based Health Centers (SBHC.) If necessary they can get you connected to rapid (results the same day) PCR/molecular testing for multiple respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. Simply call 303-602-8958 to make an appointment.
  • You can simply get a COVID-19 test, without meeting with a healthcare provider, through the State of Colorado. Make your appointment online at https://www.primarybio.com/l/cdphe. The results usually come back within a day or two.

**With a negative COVID-19 test, students can return to school after being without fever (and not using fever-reducing medications) for 24 hours.

If you student or anyone in your family has not yet been vaccinated, they are overdue for their 2nd dose, or if you are due for a COVID-19 booster I would encourage you to sign up for our next COVID-19 vaccine clinic:

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) will be at Farrell B. Howell ECE-8 School on Tuesday, January 11th from 1 PM to 7 PM to provide COVID vaccines for anyone age 5 or older. You can make an appointment for children 5-11 below; anyone age 12 or older must walk-in and complete paperwork at the event.

Make an appointment* for those 5-11 here: https://www.comassvax.org//appointment/en/reg/8269193089       (Formulario de registro en español.)
The vaccines are free and no ID, insurance or proof of medical history is required.

*We ask that parents make the appointment during a time in which you can come to school to walk your student through the clinic, we have limited staffing and will not be able to individually pull students from class to take them through the clinic. We appreciate your understanding and assistance.

Learn if you are due for a booster (3rd) dose of the COVID vaccine here: https://covid19.colorado.gov/vaccine-third-dose-booster
