Outdoor Lunch Reminder and Updates

07/18/22, 4:48 PM

Good Evening Howell Families,

As a reminder, our school team is working closely with our full-time school nurse to follow the district's COVID-19 protocols diligently to protect our students, your families, and our school staff. One part of the protocols includes having our student (K-8) eat outdoors as much as possible to help reduce the amount of time students are without masks or facial coverings indoors.

As the weather begins to cool I wanted to take a moment to let you know what will happen on inclement (bad) weather days. We have been very fortunate so far, but soon we will be forced to move indoors sometimes. Please make sure your student has a jacket/coat as we will still go outside for recess most days.

  • If the outdoor temperature is less than 50F or if it is snowing, raining, or very windy we will move lunch indoors.
    • Elementary (K-5) students will eat lunch in their homeroom classroom in the same assigned seat from breakfast.
    • Junior Academy (6-8) students will eat lunch in the cafeteria.
      • Each grade will eat at a different time and students will sit in an assigned seat so we can perform contact tracing in the event of a positive case.

As a reminder from our nurse, students who are exposed to a case of COVID-19, but fall into one of the follow categories do not need to quarantine unless they develop symptoms:

  • The student is fully vaccinated* against COVID-19. (We have a COVID vaccine clinic at school tomorrow.)
  • The student had a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the last 90 days.
  • Both individuals (the infected person and your student) were wearing their mask properly over their nose/mouth at the time of exposure.

If your student is in need of a coat or jacket, please reach out to our school social worker Ms. A at 720-424-2747 or visit our website to learn about free clothing resources in our community.
