Dear Farrell B. Howell families,

I would like to make you aware of an incident involving two of our students that occurred this morning before school began. Two of our students were attempting to cross Albrook Drive at the crosswalk at Carson Street. A slow-moving vehicle struck both children. The driver stopped, and we called emergency responders. Police and firefighters arrived quickly to assist the students. Both students had minor scrapes and bruises but no major injuries.

Because these types of incidents can be troubling to students, we had our two social workers at our school be available to assist any students who were distressed by the incident. Please let us know if your child would like to talk with someone.

Please take this opportunity to reinforce safety messages with your students. Below are a few traffic safety reminders to go over with your students.

Street Safety:

  • Cross at corners and use a crosswalk.

  • Be aware of all vehicles.

  • Stop, look and cross with adult help.

  • Obey traffic signals.

  • Be careful and make safe choices.

Safety is our No. 1 priority, at Farrell B. Howell and we are extending our crosswalk morning supervision times. I thank you for helping us to keep our kids safe while at school and on the way to and from school.

Sincerely,

Rachel Massey, Principal
