Dear KSPE Families,
The tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, has shaken us all. I am navigating overwhelming feelings of immense sadness for kids and families and the entire Uvalde community, and also deep anger at this happening again.
I recognize that many of us are – and will be – processing a complex range of emotions. The same will be true for our KIPPsters. We are committed to being there for everyone in our community in every way we can.
We know students will react and process a range of emotions and responses. We encourage you to review the resources attached to support you in supporting your child. At KSPE, we will be listening closely to what our KIPPsters talk about. If and when kids talk about the tragedy, we will hold space in our classrooms to review the attached PowerPoint. We want to share this information with you directly.
As your school leader, I don’t take lightly the enormous responsibility of both keeping our kids safe and ensuring they are connected socially and emotionally to their school family. In these moments, it is easy to lead with my feelings of hopelessness, but today and tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that, I am digging deep to the truth that building and fostering safety and connection for our kids is the best prevention strategy we can leverage and it’s what all children deserve. Connected kids and connected adults can care, empathize, and love.
Let us bring that truth forward in the last six days we have with your kids. Make connection a priority. Love on your kids by providing space and as much consistency as possible.

Sabemos que los estudiantes reaccionarán y procesarán una variedad de emociones y respuestas. Lo alentamos a que revise los recursos adjuntos para ayudarlo a apoyar a su hijo. En KSPE, estaremos escuchando atentamente lo que hablan nuestros KIPPsters. Cuando los niños hablen sobre la tragedia, haremos un espacio en nuestras aulas para revisar el PowerPoint adjunto. Queremos compartir esta información contigo directamente.
Como líder de su escuela, yo tomo la enorme responsabilidad de mantener seguros a nuestros niños y garantizar que estén conectados social y emocionalmente con su familia escolar. En estos momentos, es fácil liderar con mis sentimientos de desesperanza, pero hoy y mañana y pasado y pasado, estoy profundizando en la verdad de que construir y fomentar la seguridad y la conexión para nuestros hijos es lo mejor. La estrategia de prevención que podemos aprovechar es que todos los niños merecen. Los niños conectados y los adultos conectados pueden cuidar, empatizar y amar.
