We were thrilled to welcome all students and parents back on August 17 for another exciting year of learning and growth at DSST. This year, we are especially excited because DSST is marking its 20th anniversary! It's a remarkable journey that wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering dedication of you, our incredible community.
Over the years, DSST has evolved into a thriving ecosystem that fosters curiosity, innovation and collaboration. As we reflect on our past achievements and look ahead to the future, we are energized by the possibilities that lie before us.
Here's to the next chapter in our story, as we celebrate our 20th anniversary and continue to shape a brighter future, one lesson at a time. We can't wait to see all the wonderful things this year has in store for us.

DSST: Conservatory Green High School Chess Club/Team makes winning moves on and off the board
- The DSST: Conservatory Green High School Chess club/team has taken the local chess scene by storm, turning heads and making their mark in various tournaments throughout the year. What started as a casual club has blossomed into a competitive team, showcasing the students' strategic prowess and fostering a vibrant community of chess enthusiasts. Read more.
DSST's commitment to educational equity: Navigating the post-affirmative action landscape
- DSST's Chief Equity Officer, Dr. Aaron Griffen, provided a commentary on the Supreme Court's decision to strike down affirmative action in higher education and how DSST intends to continue to break down barriers against educational inequity. In his commentary, you will find information on the history of affirmative action, what it means for students of color and other marginalized groups and more. Read more.

- DSST: Byers is now DSST: Cedar. The name change was approved over the summer and was highlighted by Denver 7, 9 News and Chalkbeat Colorado.
- Denver 7 helped DSST kick off the school year with a fun highlight showcasing the 20th anniversary, which you can watch here.
- Neighborhood news outlets are also noticing DSST students. Front Porch, which covers Northeast Denver, highlighted some seniors from DSST: Green Valley Ranch during a visit to the Denver Fire Academy. Additionally, a DSST: Montview sophomore was highlighted in the Daily Camera, which covers the Boulder area, for his participation in an engineering program where he learned to make a solar oven.
Resources & Reminders
The DSST website has a whole new look! We kept all the same helpful info, but we revamped the look. The new site is easier to navigate, includes upcoming events and also provides a closer look at some of our demographics and data. My Spark is a program that offers eligible DPS middle school students the opportunity for their parent or guardian to receive a $1,000 debit card that can be used to enroll their student in extracurricular activities. Enrollment in My Spark Denver is first-come, first-serve. You can learn more here.
Attending school regularly is of paramount importance for the holistic development of your child. Consistent attendance fosters a structured learning environment, allowing students to engage actively with their peers and teachers, thereby enhancing social and cognitive skills. By prioritizing attendance, you are not only supporting their educational journey but also instilling the discipline and responsibility necessary for future endeavors. We want your student at school every day! If you are worried that your student will not be able to make it to school, please reach out to your school as soon as possible to connect for next steps.
