Sharing the Passing of a KDC Teacher

Dear KIPP Denver Collegiate Team & Family,

It is with great sadness that I write to share the news of the passing of one of our beloved teachers. Christopher Cochrane, our 9th-Grade Literature Teacher, passed away this weekend.

We are deeply saddened by this loss - Mr. Cochrane has been an integral member of our community since he started at KDC in 2022. As we process this tragedy as a community, we ask that you also give the Cochrane family the space and the grace they need to work through this terrible loss. We will make sure to share any opportunities for you to support his family.

We are reaching out to you all before we share this news with your students. We know that this information is difficult and our community will be grieving, and we wanted to ensure that you all knew what our plan was moving forward.

During first period tomorrow, Thursday 2/22, we will be sharing the news of Mr. Cochrane’s passing with our broader school community. Our leadership team will be supporting our 9th grade community directly and we are working with Denver Public Schools and our broader regional community to ensure that we are able to provide additional support to our students. Should your student need additional support during this time, there are a variety of resources shared below that we encourage them to access.

During these times, it’s vitally important that we rally around one another and uplift each other’s voices. We will continue to extend our love and support to the family and hope that you will do the same. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Con gran tristeza les escribo para compartir la noticia del fallecimiento de uno de nuestros queridos maestros. Christopher Cochrane, nuestro maestro de literatura de noveno grado, falleció este fin de semana.

Estamos profundamente entristecidos por esta pérdida: el Sr. Cochrane fue un miembro integral de nuestra comunidad desde que comenzó en KDC en 2022.
