Hello Bulldog Family,

My name is Eva Perez. I am the Associate School Director at the High School. This is my second year at Elevate High School, but I have over 10 years of experience as an educator. I have been in the far northeast community for the majority of my career. I am passionate about this work and believe that every scholar can achieve greatness. I believe in a restorative approach where scholars can lean into each other and speak freely about how they were harmed or how they harmed others. This approach creates vulnerability and, in return, supports a healthy environment where scholars feel heard, and staff is able to continue to support and help implement these strategies to sustain social-emotional growth.

Middle School is wrapping up iReady testing this week. This upcoming week, Elevate Middle School and High School will have ACCESS testing. In general, the ACCESS testing window begins Monday, January 22nd until Friday, February 9th. The times vary for testing.

High school semester one field trip to Boondocks will take place on February 1, 2024. Field trip forms have been printed and delivered to students. We are accepting payment + field trip forms until January 26, 2024. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Viciedo.

Join us at DSST Elevate Northeast on January 25th, from 5:00pm-7:00pm for our school culture discussion. We will have food and childcare available. We will be discussing important topics about our community. Our community partner- Struggle of Love Foundation, will be presenting and providing resources. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Community Engagement Recruitment Manager- Jalen Hughes.

Lastly, as we get further into the school year, we would like to remind you of the importance of good attendance for all students. Every day a student is absent is a lost opportunity for learning. Too many absences cannot only affect achievement for the student but also disrupt the student's learning. Attending school regularly helps students feel better about school and themselves.

What you can do:

  • Avoid scheduling vacations when school is in session. They are considered unexcused absences.

  • Build regular routines for bedtime and the morning.

  • Lay out clothes and backpacks the night before.

  • Talk about the importance of regular attendance and about how your child feels about school.

  • Don’t permit missing school unless your child is truly sick. Use a thermometer to check for a fever.

  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, or the school for advice on how to make him/her feel comfortable and excited about learning.

  • Avoid medical appointments when school is in session.

Respectfully,

Eva Perez
