New Standards Based Grading
08/01/25, 2:09 PM
Dear Elementary Parents,
During the 2025-2026 school year, the elementary campus will be transitioning to a new form of grading called Standards-Based Grading (SBG).
This is different from traditional grading, where students receive an overall grade using an average of assignments and assessments. Standards-based grading is a way of showing how well students are learning specific skills or topics (Colorado Academic Standards). Instead of getting one overall grade, students are given feedback on each skill to show what they understand and what they still need to practice.
Students will receive a proficiency score based on a 4-point scale. A sample of the scale is shown below. This approach helps parents, students, and teachers clearly see what a student knows and what they still need to work on to support more targeted learning and growth.
Proficiency Level |
Definition |
Score 1 |
Student is making progress towards prerequisite skills for this standard |
Score 2 |
Student is partially proficient in this area and is making progress towards the grade-level standard |
Score 3 |
Student is proficient in this area. Meets grade-level expectation |
Score 4 |
Student is performing above what is expected for this grade level. |
More information will be coming your way in the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you have questions about our new grading system, feel free to contact Dr. Every (everyb@frontieracademy.net), Mrs. Willis (willisa@frontieracademy.net), or Mrs. Kleiber (kleiberb@frontieracademy.net).
